Brewed Crankhouse Winton at supposedly 12% Kruve grind reference at 21 on the Duo. The 12% has another grind ref at 17 on Duo.
It is interesting how different beans produce differing percentage of fines. Of the 4 bags I brewed on #21, two gave an average 11.5%, which is good. The other two produced 10.6% and 9.9% (Winton). All the 4 are nice / very nice coffee beans. At 9.9%, I gave only 6.5 / 9. The coffee had the usual aroma and taste. It was on the weaker side compared to the 7.5 / 9 score from 9% Kruve brew. I can only think of it as less-soluble and to lower number of pours (5) that I use for the usual 12% Kruve. Given the actual % fines here, I should have brewed it like 9% Kruve.
I brewed only 2 of the 4 at 17 grind ref for the same 12%. The average is 11.6%.
The average taste score is 7.5 both in the case of both grind reference. This indicates that there isn’t much that separates 17 and 21 grind references. If the beans allow, I may probably brew both grind references to see the taste variations in addition to brewing at 9% kruve 400.
Edit :
Ratio is same for both 9% and 12%. The former gets 33g x 30s, while the latter is 45g x 40s.
