Gaggia boiler insulation

Hi all

Friend of mine has a classic and is interested in doing a few mods

Mainly a pre heat mod? And then insulation around the boiler

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of either mods, as you know I’m not a gaggia man, but a bit of googling hasn’t really thrown much up

Wondering what’s a good and safe product to wrap round a boiler

If he has a pid on it then I would advise against insulating the boiler. While in theory this saves a bit of energy, it also means that it’s much harder for the pid to control the temp, as any over shoot takes longer to recover.

On my Silvia I had much better control and speed of recovery between shots by removing the insulation. It also heats up faster, so I figure I save energy this way by only putting it on when I need to use it.

Just food for thought.
