Ando How do I test that the safety feature is working properly? I started releasing the lever with no portafilter in the group but it didn’t feel like anything was kicking in to stop it from flying back at a rate of knots.
It only works when there is pressure showing. The group has to ideally be full of water…you will notice on the demo video, that the lever initially comes up quickly then slows down…this is because the open group isn’t really properly full. With coffee though, it will be full and if the portafilter blows off, then it will come up quite slowly immediately that happens. It is purely designed to deal with a portafilter blow off. The glass or cup will smash, but at least the rest is safe.
You need to be careful about trying it with an empty group as you might damage your machine….but if you must set Preinfusion pressure to 3 and pull the lever down until positive pressure shows on the group gauge. Then release it but keep a control hand there until you know it’s working (if you understand)..
