I can only message, what Antonio Nurri told me. He told me that the backflush option and the possibility to
stop a shot leading the rest water into the drip tray is exclusively for the Nurri LSM group by the paddle. The patent for this is pending.

Yeah but the Evo basically does the pump bypass right now because that’s how it’s designed. The nurri just has a an extra paddle that makes activating the pump easier.

The bypass portion just seems like it’s a solenoid in the group that opens when activated and water in the headspace just takes the path of least resistance.

I wonder why the Evo didn’t come with the group that has the anti shock system? That tech was out before the Evo went into production.

Had a scare this morning. Had three gushers one after the other. Tried new beans, still gushed. Espresso thin and weak, Mrs Norvin said that taste was ‘sweet’. Tried adjusting grind, still gushed. Oh dear (or words to that effect). Then I noticed that the group heaters were off, I had accidentally switched them off when wiping down the control panel yesterday. The preheated cups had masked the reduction in temp in the cup. Who would have thought that the group heaters would make such a difference to the consistency as well as taste? (well, not me anyway). My, how we laughed…

@dfk41 Measured the amount of water purged from steam wand after this mornings startup = 20.3g.

Norvin on Friday, I did exactly the same ting Les! Wiped the display panel and somehow turned the group off! Worst part was I had to ring Dave for help!

@Elcarajillo pointed out to me that I had linked to an NPT thread valve and not a BSP. So please get the right valve…if you have fitted a NPT with PTFE and not done it too tight, check to see if it is leaking, if not, leave it alone..if it is, and only if it is leaking, remove it. If you have followed the use of PTFE tape and don’t do it too tight (as I always say.. it should all be OK, you can often get a few threads of NPT onto BSP.

what’s the difference please ?
What are an NPT and a BSP?
Could I have damaged the threads in the boiler? This will be my main concern.
I am not sure, if there is a leak. I need to take her down and examine. How could I possibly examine the leak?
I did tighten them to ensure no leaks but not glue tight.

I don’t know, but if it doesn’t leak, leave it there….as for the temp limits, I would imagine either option will be fine.

Working temperature: -29～180℃ (sealing ring is reinforced polytetrafluoroethylene) or -29～300℃ (sealing ring is para-polyphenyl) pipeline.

Please take a look. I wonder if there is a bit of a difference in stains in the after picture, which I took now. I do think it needs to be replaced. 😊

The practical question is:

The service boiler, I think, needs to run to actually check for leaks around the drain valve under pressure. Not sure, if this is possible.

Eiffel I had the same issue with my machine. The drip tray “bounces” on the case rather frustratingly. My fix was to use one of the felt sticky pads included in the box. I stuck it to the case, and the drip tray slid on snug. While this fixed the issue, it was annoying to say the least.

LMSC if you look at the way the current gear pump is attached to the chassis (zip ties and bolted to the frame), I think you could get away with a possible vibration dampening mod between the pump and the frame to make it quieter. Also some insulation around the pump might also be really helpful.

The pump itself is really powerful and self priming. Minus the noise, I like it.

I’m hoping to experiment here in the next few weeks when I find some downtime.

I already placed thick dampening material between the pump and the chassis, replaced the cable ties, and coated the pump in 2 cm thick dampening material. There was 0 change in the noise, so useless mod for sure.

So if you want to solve it there are 2 mods that I already mentioned months ago:

-buy 12-24V power regulator and set the pump to 18V for example (yes the flow will be reduced by little)

-change the pump with something else that is not as noisy

I also do not own a leva anymore as I sold it.

DenisS It’s more of a medium term mod, if the cost is reasonable. The noise doesn’t bother me.

The main thing I am looking at is bringing some stability to the brew boiler temperature as the overshoot - not the first 30 mins — for me is still easily a little over 2C after a flush or waiting for another shot. I have done a lot of playing with the parameters. It just won’t budge. 😊

DenisS I was considering rubber vibration isolating fasteners between the pump and the chassis with insulation around that as well. I’ll give it some thought, but, after hearing your experience, I’m not sure it’s the highest priority anymore 😬

LMSC Looks ok, I only recommend removal and replacement if it leaks. Otherwise, leave it alone.

The pump of the Londinium R24 is whisper quiet. I wonder, if it is possible to replace the the gear pump.

cimbali The gear pump was chosen as it injects the group with water as fast as possible. It was not chosen for quietness. What you are asking for, is a portion of chilli con carne without kidney beans!
