MWJB Better designs work better, worse designs work worse, cost is a different thing
Yep, I realised after writing, but didn’t want to edit the post. As in, one can have a poor design, yet it can be costly. 👍
dfk41 - yeah, I understand. Mine is from the very first batch, built in the UK, and it’s still going strong after 4 years.
It’s a great grinder, don’t get me wrong. But the point I was trying to make is that not everything made in China uses or is necessarily cheap and nasty copies.
Spoke to Bella Barista this morning. The DF83 is not being discussed yet. However, it looks like they may be adding the DF64E to their range. Their support read through the features.
I think the model they mentioned is this:
https://www.espressooutlet.net/turin-df64e-grinder-single-dosing-electronic-dosing-df64p-w-e-dosing/
A hopper, straight body and the grind dial has moved to the bottom.
Yeah, I asked BB about it too.
Similar to the Eureka Mignon in a way, but with a limited adjustable range, which means you can only really use for espresso, rather than for a multi purpose.
MediumRoastSteam you can only really use for espresso, rather than for a multi purpose
Correct. The above website mentions it clearly.
The DF64 has a wider range in grind size and can work well for a wide range of coffees. The DF64E is mostly designed for espresso grind sizes and doesn’t do as well with larger grind sizes.
LMSC - I know. I’ve been researching this grinder for over two weeks now :-)
More info on the adjustment:
LMSC Looks very neat and Lagom-y.
550W motor. At the energy prices we are seeing, we might need to start considering the cost of running the grinder for 45 seconds! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
MediumRoastSteam Just you wait when they will start charging us for apparent power rather than real power, and all these motors have no power factor correction…
The solo is 250W. Not sure how long does it take to grind 18g. The Mazzer Major is 650W. I have seen Jake’s take about 10-12s to grind including puffing the grinds out.
The 550W should grind quickly. Let’s see.
LMSC Just remember that speed of grind is not really what you want from a flat burr, especially if you want the best quality!
You don’t want it too slow, the burrs must fully pack…but you don’t want it too fast either….it’s got to be a bit like baby bears porridge…“just right”

About 18-20 seconds typically I’d say. Will time the next one
DF 83 pre-orders priced at $849 + shipping in the US. Not sure if taxes are included.
https://www.espressooutlet.net/amp/turin-df83-single-dose-grinder/
Used major and SSP burrs it is seen as the dollar to pound is $1.13 to a quid

LMSC Not sure if taxes are included.
Almost definitely not - 1) they vary from place to place, from 0% in Oregon to 7.25% in California. 2) it is illegal for a company not based in a State to levy State sales taxes.
In any case, we have to count on another 23-25% thanks to duty and VAT
BTW - price has gone down?
CoyoteOldMan $699 now
LMSC 🤪
If we wait until tomorrow, they’ll pay us to take it away!
LMSC + US taxes
Thankfully those should not be charged, as they will definitely ship out-of-state!
Flat burr niche!
So I gave the grinder a good clean yesterday - removed all grinds from screwheads with a toothpick etc. - it looked as clean as the day I received it. First coffee this morning I put 18g in and got 17g out so 1g down from the first grind after cleaning. Will measure the other 2 grinds I do today and edit this message as I go along.
Grind 1 - 18g in & 17g out (1 gram loss)
Grind 2 - 18.5g in & 18g out (0.5g loss) - planned that one perfectly haha
Grind 3 - 18.2g in & 18.1g out (0.1g loss).
Quite happy with that as it goes.
