Looks great. Enjoy getting to know your new machine
Gaggia woes

Jollybean Thank you. Excited and nervous simultaneously. Not nervous about using a new machine, but nervous about my frustrations putting me off.
Just keep in mind that all machines have their own particular characteristics that you need to master to get the best out of them. Dont get frustrated if all is not completely perfect from day one. You will have the machine for a long time and your coffee will only get better the more you get used to it. A very capable machine so you will be able to get some great coffee from it.
Jollybean Very true!!
I’ll stick with the supplied basket and use 16-16.5g, take it from there. Extremely excited I have to say.

dndrich Re the resin filter. I live in Scotland, further up North, well known for very soft water, on top of that I have a filter connected to my tap water (which I’ll be using to top up my machine). The filter still necessary?
DavecUK Thank you.
And I must thank you for your detailed info on the machine in your review. I’ll be studying it this weekend and setting it up according to your recommendations.

Fits in the space well enough I would say.
@dndrich That tip with the felt pads on the feet, brilliant. Thank you!
Cuprajake Their double spouted slide portafilter, single and double baskets, blind basket, water filter, 3 sachets of puly caff, some detergent for steam wand, plastic coffee scoop and really rubbish plastic “thing” that is supposed to represent a tamper 😅
I would start with the stock basket initially. I am very happy with it myself, and have not changed it, nor do I see a reason to change it. I do have a bottomless portafilter for the fun of it. It is also easier to keep clean. But the stock portafilter is great. Huge hunk of metal that holds heat. Glad you installed the felt pads. That was a DavecUK suggestion! Super good thing.
dndrich Why do you suggest the stock over the IMS one pictured next to it in the post above?
Ims are ok vst are hard to use.
Ps is that not the single basket

So I just made coffee, roasted on 2nd Dec.
17.1g in, 42.1g out, 3sec pre-infusion, total of 29 second. Coffee tasted nice, had lovely sweetness, but it tasted very generic as opposed to the notes stated. They say it’s medium roast, I used 95C.
Suggestions as to how to improve, please?
DrForinor “Improve” I don’t know, but I would be tempted to play with the temperature. See if a shot at 93 brings out anything other than ‘just acidity’… and if so, you may go further down. If it only goes acidic, then try going up by a degree (to 96)?
(Also, I would not expect coffee that is a month after roasting to have a lot of delicate notes… no matter how you brew it or how well it has been kept)
