This is it and we are with John Lewis who I believe are underwritten by Great Lakes Insurance UK Ltd.

Regarding the record/CD/DVD collection I will enquire to see if it reallly is covered as I had thought.

Pompeyexile @LMSC should confirm as I’m just an end user not professional, but pretty sure a ‘records collection’ will fall under ‘valuables’ and the ‘single items valuable limit’ - you’d only get £3000 for it. Looks like a nice policy other than that.

John Lewis are one of the last reliable good guys out there. I’ve just bought a new TV from them - got a bloody good deal too. 5 year quibble-free warranty. Offer when purchased before tomorrow had 10% off. Plus then got a further £100 e-voucher with the purchase. Result

The definition of valuables can vary by insurances. The list is exhaustive. JL insurance defines valuables as in this link.

A detailed policy document includes HiFi as a part of valuables.

      They change all the time.

One would typically require proof of ownership and/or valuation if above £3000. What happens to claims for a single item below £3K is subject to insurance terms and policy schedule. Pompeyexile has a portfolio of LPs. How is it treated in this case? Are they grouped and declared as collection of LPs? What happens if a few of them are lost? How would they process the claims especially if they are rare, collectors and can’t be replaced items? We don’t know. He will have to ask.

Up to Pompeyexile to decide if he would like covers for valuables above £40K, which seems to be their gold policy. Probably he is already happy with what he has got. 😊

I’d love to need cover for valuables over 40K!!

Surely your machine and grinders are collectively worth north of that?

Funnily enough I’ve had my home insurance reminder today, via email

I went here and saved £60…

Well, new my hi-fi equipment alone cost well over 3k and with over 700 LP’s, 2000 CD’s over 1500 DVD/Blu Ray’s I definitely need to speak to my insurers.

My pet insurance finishes later this month. To renew with Many Pets was £47 for lifetime something, unlimited god knows what for a two year old dog. Last year the policy was £38, the year before that, £29. Many Pets always came out the cheapest after shopping around for the level of cover.

But… this year, one quick search on a comparison site and a similar policy is £25 with EveryPaw. So, I’m going with them.

I’m absolutely convinced insurance companies expect us not to bother with the hassle of moving and we’ll just pay the price we’re told as it’s more convenient to stay.

All similar services do the same. Just two examples from today: Wife’s annual travel insurance came for renewal. Last year: £36. This year: £51 (it was not many years ago that I paid £19 for a year for a family of 5…). Not done anything yet because I’ve opted out of “auto scam renewal”.

Virgin Media: Last month: £30.40. Next month (contract expired): £56. Had to spend an hour on the phone, move from Customer Care to Customer Retention (or similar) department to get an offer for £38 for the same plan. Ended up downgrading one tier for £32 per month.

The targets/victims of this are the most vulnerable people in society (lazy people get caught as well). Disgusting imo.

Doram - on Virgin Media they added the nonsense recently so they could update prices out of contract, giving customers the option to real hey we’re not happy.

After a 2 day conversation over a few departments (using WhatsApp chat) I argue with wasn’t fair as I was in a contract. They gave all the rubbish excuses, so I said that, as much as they can do that, so can I, and would then opt to break the contract. In the end they agreed to keep me in the agreed contractual price until the end of the contract which expires in Feb next year.

DavecUK on I pay £165 for a flipping cat!!!

I hope it makes your breakfast in the morning and tidies up around the house, because for that money I would expect nothing less😁

                DavecUK That’s crazy prices!

But I’m convinced that my dog’s cover will end up as much as this past a certain age.
