MediumRoastSteam I believe some of the workers even tightened the gicleur on the Bianca too much which essentially broke it (image copied from H-B)

Espresso Machines - Lelit Bianca - Flow Control Hardware Issues

the cost of hand made, hehe

erkal I use wdt tool and Normcore tamper. What else shall I do? If not cone then what is it meant to look like?

@Cuprajake can show you exactly what an extraction should look like. He has lots of videos. :-)

The grinder might explain it… See… Now you have a bottomless PF, you can’t unsee things :-)

Honestly - Get to know your machine first and then you worry about the pressure. Mine was set at 11 bar or so and I only bothered changing the pressure a few months later. Up to you of course.

erkal the cone = you have too much in the basket which it touches the shower. the general rule of thumb is that you leave 2mm between the coffee bed and the shower. you can use a coin to see if you have to much (tip from Youtube, haven’t tried it myself)

erkal I thought 19g shoudl be good because the basket is labeled 18-20g.

you’ll find that some coffees occupy more volume in the basket for the same weight. :-)

MediumRoastSteam that particular bean in the video was freshly roasted and it produced a particularly exaggerated drip, it was very foamy.

dont forget that a bottomless portafilter is only a tool, and as things change with espresso so too have we learnt that the look from the bottom of the pf is somewhat useless lol

we understand so little of what is happening in the basket.

Decent De1pro v1.45 - Niche Duo - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -

does the gauge show the puck pressure?

Decent De1pro v1.45 - Niche Duo - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -

        I have no idea.

The main reason for me to buy the bottomless (aside from the fact that it looks delicious) was because it’s hard to clean the original one. It gets very sticky under the basket and rinsing doesn’t change it. This is super clean I love it.

One thing at the time gents. :-)

Let’s worry about the real issues (locking the PF, leaking) and then we can worry about the subjective issues (cone extraction, etc…)

Remember, if it tastes good, then you are winning.

          MediumRoastSteam

LOL You’re right. I mean it’s not bad because I drink with milk but how much of the taste is due to poor grind I cannot tell. I will clean it up and have another go first and see what happens. I will report back

erkal I drink exclusively latte too but I usually try to taste the espresso before adding milk. just to see if I get it right (and in most cases a chaotic extraction as can be seen by the bottomless pf does not taste right)

delta76 do you find that low acidity and medium to dark roasts are better for milk?

erkal to my taste, yes, mostly yes. People drink light roast for the unique flavor so it’s a bit pointless IMO to make latte with it, as milk masks a lot of notes. I usually don’t drink dark roast (medium dark is ok). of everything I tried (not a lot, and I don’t have great taste bud neither), I prefer the unique taste from ethiopian yirgacheffe roasted to medium. I recall that Ethiopian coffee in general has unique taste due to high sulfur content in the soil.

but don’t be afraid to try out new things. only you can decide what you like best. :)

                Hello!

So I got the Allen key, un screwed it, gave everything a proper clean, brass water dispenser, red ring, black gasket, everything is brand spanking clean. It was pretty disgusting actually. I then did a backflush with the cleaning product saches that came with the machine. I then screwed everything back on without tightening too much. I then went on to making a shot. The beans from the previous video were finished I had some Mexican and 19g of this one was way too little compared to the Indian from the last video which was almost overflowing. So I tried with 20g and unfortunately again there was some dripping, although very very minimal, I heard the *psssst as soon as the pump began following the preinfuse. Only a few drops seeped out, not even enough to see any drops fall but they were out on a closer inspection. I can upload the video but you cannot see it in there.

So now its either puck being too full or maybe I might have screwed too tight again? I can see the shower screen screw has left a mark on the puck so maybe it is too much. I will try again with less coffee, I really hope thats the issue.

Edit: I have loosened the screw a little more, just enough to stop the screen from turning when I push.

You need to do that coin test as described a few posts above.

Also, I can see coffee around the rim of your basket. You need to make sure things are clean - both the gasket and the basket lips, otherwise it won’t have a proper seal.

Also, did you manage to remove the group gasket and gave the whole group and gasket a clean? And, is the gasket the right way up? (flat side facing down).

MediumRoastSteam Yeah I noticed the coffee around the rim as well, I have no idea why thats there, it was almost new clean, I took it all out including asket and red ring and washed/brushed all parts with washing up liquid and wiped the inside with brush and cloth, then backflushed. There was nothing there. You can see the rim of the puck is also clean when I prepared it. I have no idea how that got there.

Could you take a picture (hopefully with good definition and light) of the bottom of your group, without the portafilter in place? Thanks.
