@Ernie1 didn’t it already work like that? I converted my auto to simple on / off by:

  • Gently pull on the wires at the microswitch so you can see which ones they are on the bottom. Remove these from the terminal block.
  • Repeat above with the wires at the bottom of the doser. Use a short wire to jumper these 2 terminals on the terminal block. These are all that needs jumpered, NOT the ones that the microswitch went to. (adapted from HB)

Basically, your grey wires would be disconnected, and your black wires, jumpered.

Maybe you wired them the other way round?

    Thanks yeah I wired it the way you described and it works well.

    The question above was just a minor thing about the way the black switch on the side works. By default it’s a clockwise click to power on the grinder, and then the spring loaded push to actually run the motor. I wondered if there’s a way to just have it on/off without the sprung part.

      I think I could have jumpered both sets of wires. End result would be OFF - ON -ON (spring). I don’t need to engage the spring loaded ON for it to start grinding.

      I did it like 10 years ago so I wasn’t sure which was which.

      Ah that’s a great help thanks, the functionality you’ve described is what I’m looking for. Just makes ‘topping up’ doses a bit easier if I’m using the hopper.

          I think if I was single dosing it would be no probs at all, it’s just really to make it slightly easier to do ‘top-up’ quick bursts to make up the dose.

          If I do go ahead with painting it I might see about changing the switch entirely to something like the Niche toggle switch.

            Yeah I’ve seen toggle switches fitted to them, and an Arduino.

              And there’s me thinking that glass hopper would be the last £££ I spend on it 🤦🏻‍♂️

                I did it because I was concerned repeated use of the switch would ruin it, especially single dosing. I figured it’s easier to replace the wall switch than the Mazzer’s, lol. So I left it on and turn on and off via the wall socket.

                The wiring on my automatic SJ seems more straightforward. I did not have to open the base.

                  Emc2 I think the “automatic” models have a two positions-only “main” switch - the other switches are in the doser… which you no longer have.

                    Yeah I had those wires on the doser that was originally fitted but had to reroute a few when I removed the doser to switch for the funnel.

                      I recall it was quite easy to make it so the switch turns it on (turn once then spring turn to start motor). Mine wasn’t the timer version. Also why do you think using the spring switch will damage it long term?

                      It shouldn’t as there commercial machines, plus the switches are readily available and less than £40

                      I was mostly concerned about the back and forth between the Off and the On. I imagined in a real automatic usage, the switch would stay On for the day, and only returned to off at the end of the day (if ever). For my usage , the constant pulsing (3 - 4x) per shot would require me to switch off - on for up to 16 times a day (4 shots).

                      What I would really like though, is :

                      -Off remains as Off

                      -On as off

                      -Spring loaded turn ON, but when released becomes Off.

                      Or, maybe I am overthinking it!

                        dilin Industrial switches are made to last a mad amount of cycles, you won’t have a worry there. I’m sure they didn’t pick the cheapest switch just because they thought cafe owners would only switch it on once a day. Mazzer were always known for robust products.
