Cuprajake

I’m out right now so I can’t check the PID settings at the moment, but I do notice the following behavior:

When drawing some hot water to warm up the cups, the steam boiler remains stable, dropping by ~1 degree or less. After pulling 2 shots and getting ready to steam milk, I will do a short purge to clear the water in the steam path. The steam boiler temperature will plummet by ~8-10 degree after the purge

However, if I do not draw any hot water to warm the cups, the steam boiler temp only drops <1 degree after the purge.

Most likely when you draw water from the service (steam) boiler, the amount of water is not enough to trigger a fill.

You then go about steaming, the water level drops and a fill triggers, sending cold water into the boiler and consequently the temperature drops.

Next time you draw water, make sure the steam boiler fills up before steaming. Usually the only way to do that is to try to make it register, by drawing more water, or pruning the steam wand until you hear the pump filling up the boiler.

I just use a glaze, in the past meguiers mirror glaze, currently using Poorboy black hole. But anything really with no cut as it won’t damage the finish, only shine it up

Steam wise it’s not terrible, I just thought it was cycling to quickly, but @DavecUK says it’s fine

On my settings it cycles 124-126 with a set point of 125

After steaming a jug of about 300mls it will drop to about 121 before recovery

On the contrary, every draw of water to fill the cups trigger the the refill, which in my case is twice for my morning routine. Its pretty obvious with the gear pump. After the pump cuts out, interestingly/weirdly the temp doesn’t drop that much.

JWSG I’m trying to remember but there is a fill probe sensitivity setting, might be worth adjusting that.

depends how much you draw wont it? like 20ml vs 100ml?

Cuprajake that seems pretty good to me. what pid settings do you use for that, the ones in the video?

          They were atm im using p-20, i-0, d-0, b-1

Hey Dave, thanks for your prompt reply and I apologise for not responding but i had to deal with a family emergency and been away ….

So, i tried to replicate the issue and it goes like that:
1- once the machine reaches a high temperature water vapour start to come from the back side left corner of the machine.
          [

2- upon inspection I suspect that on the steam boiler something is leaking a small amount of water that it touches the hot surface and evaporating at a rapid rate.

3- i think the issue starts (as in the pic below) from here. Whereby -trying to catch the beginning of the issue- i see first drops of waster coming from there before it becomes hectic. Secondly once i turn off the machine the sound keeps showing in the same are (a high pitch like when you pump a ball with a manual air pump)
          [

Hopefully i am in the right direction to find the source of the issue.

          Thanks

What temp does the machine show for the steam boiler when this happens

I had the same issue and it was the temp sensor on the boiler.

It’s an easy fix, you need to email acs with the vid, they will ask you your steam boiler settings, potentially get you to change them,

If it is the temp sensor, then you need to remove the back panel, the counter weight and the sensor is undo with a spanner, when put back in use PTFE tape and the wie is on a connector.

            In addition to

Cuprajake What temp does the machine show for the steam boiler when this happens

Is the water coming out of the end, or the side (where it attaches to the main fitting) of this piece?

Cuprajake after researching to determine what causing this and that the safety valve kicked in due to high temp. So I remembered that i have inputed the modified temp settings from here and so i pulled the manual and fixed all the values to the recommended settings. I tested the machine one time and the issue didn’t occur. I will test it further.

Also, i think the way i turn off my machine ( turning the main switch whilst the machine is on) caused the settings maybe to change…

DavecUK to my eyes it came from the joint at first but maybe its accumulation from turning the machine in and off to see where the issue occurs… i am not sure yet.

              Thanks

Non of the settings on here should cause the valve to open you need to be really high.

Keep an eye for the steam boiler display jumping.

Cuprajake maybe the settings caused misreading or the temperature to raise very high. Cause as soon as I changed them the issue didn’t happen!

Berryterry It could also be that the spring i-n the steamvalve is a little weaker than normal…not worth changing it now..but if it ever gets worse or in the fullness of time requires replacement, do it then.

Looking for opinions. I’ve had my Evo Leva about a month and it’s always made a “groaning” sound along with usual Evo Leva noises (pump etc) I’m in contact with my local shop and we are both awaiting a response from ACS. It’s been over 2 weeks waiting for a response and I’m sure one is forthcoming. In the meantime I figured I would ask other users their thoughts. I’ve watched many of the videos from members here and Evo doesn’t sound quite the same so to speak.

                  Thanks all

Sounds like some sort of air lock/cavitation.
