DavecUK I highly underestimated the power of this little beauty before I bought it. Now that I’m with it, I can see the appeal.
Gaggia woes
If I have my brew boiler set to 95C, is it normal for the machine to vary from 94-96?
You’ll get some variation, wouldn’t worry too much.

Same thing happens on my Minima - I think as the display panel doesn’t display decimals. I remember asking exactly the same thing about my machine when I first got it. You won’t take any notice after a couple of weeks
P.s. hope you’re enjoying your new machine. Just read through this thread - a good read
dutchy101 Thank you - I didn’t ever imagine someone saying it would be a good read haha.
I am indeed enjoying it 😌

Why does my puck fall apart when I chuck it? I generally see most people when they chuck their puck after the shot, it’s intact most of the time. Mine more often than not it falls apart. My point is, does that mean I’m doing something wrong at the prep stage?
Had exactly the same thing when I moved from my Bambino Plus to the Minima. As long as the coffee tastes good, don’t worry about it. I got and use a puck screen since which has sorted this for me

dutchy101 I did think about the puck screen, but I want to try and keep everything that I need/use to a minimum so I’m trying my best to do it all with the least number of items.
The shots have been decent so far - not spectacular - but drinkable. I just wanted to check if there might be anything I’m doing that could be contributing to the puck falling apart.
Dry or wet puck has no bearing on the brew, some machines will give dryer pucks.
Sometimes the Elizabeth can have pucks stuck to the screen

Cuprajake The puck sticking to the screen, is that machine specific? Or can happen with any machine?

DrForinor Puck sticking can happen with any machine, usually a light downward pressure on the handle when unlocking can dislodge the puck when removing the PF. It’s simply a vacuum thing I think?. Puristika does it, sometimes Bianca does it, but it can happen more often on Liz, possibly the ring group used? On the lever machines a rapid lift of the lever, without even the pump activation properly unsticks them. Now of course the group vent is open, so the vacuum doesn’t really make sense, but then nothing is coming through when the lever is rapidly lifted and closed. Unless that’s enough to introduce the tiniest bit of water.
I have wondered if there is a way to ensure puck release e.g. with machines like the Liz, to simply burp the pump once after the shot ends (a BR1 or 0 parameter ;), whilst keeping the solenoid valve open?? Just don’t know if it would work with the PF attached. I keep meaning to set up a test rig…but I might ask Lelit to try it for me. There’s a few other things I’d like to get programmed into Liz and also Bianca at the same time.
As for temp as others have said it only displays 1 decimal and rounds up or down. So theoretically it could be deviating by 1.1C around the mean. It’s a tiny boiler as well, although I got mine to be pretty stable in the steady state, once it’s warmed up completely (nothing still sinking heat away and in equilibrium) and no shots pulled in a while. It’s always going to vary a tad though over time.
I haven’t had the puck stick yet though, but knowing me it’ll happen tomorrow 😅 My puck just seems to disintegrate when I throw it out, I haven’t managed to really get a fully dry puck that drops out all intact. Not that it’s something I’m aiming for, just wondered if I’m doing anything wrong.
You won’t always.
When I moved to the Bianca from the londinuim, my pucks were sloppy, one thing I prefer about levers is the dry puck

Is there is a reason why it happens some times and not other times? Can’t be pure luck?
So many variables. Dose and headroom will matter. The coffee itself will matter. Grind. And, are you using the new IMS basket, or the stock basket? The stock basket has some nice sloping so the puck drops out really well for me.

dndrich The funny thing is, I moved from my IMS basket to the standard Elizabeth double basket - and that gave me a worse puck than in the IMS basket 😅😅
Well, part of the fun is that coffee is a dynamic product. We aim for consistency, but all we really want is a way to make nice cups. Your machine can do that and more! I’m using a very nice medium roast from Verve in Santa Cruz, CA. Very predictable classic flavor for coffee and espresso. Nice arabica blend.

dndrich You are right, we only need a tasty cup. Though I can’t help but want perfection in every aspect of the process, OCD maybe? 😅😅
Have made 4 cups today, today being the second day I’ve made coffee with it, and 1 last night. Out of the 5 total, only 1 was “dodgy” tasting. The other 4 were perfectly drinkable, not amazing by any means but good. In that regard I cannot complain - but I can’t help myself, I have a “need” to know why something is happening (or not happening).
Tried 2 different coffee beans in it so far. Will try a different 3rd coffee bean tomorrow. I think the pre-infusion is definitely helping to get a fair bit of sweetness from the beans.
Also the first time I’ve tried steaming milk, a lot to learn.
