MWJB With the GG burrs I’m between 40 and 50. With the KONY it was kind of off the dial maybe a full turn or more. I always struggled to dial in for pour overs but it was great for espresso
Gorilla Gear burrs in a Niche Zero
I live on Welwyn Village North Herts but I’m often in and around North and North west London
Grahamsphillips. I live near Newbury, west berks, so not that close. Never mind. 👍

This sounds like a typical range to me,
From memory I thought that Niche intended to use the stainless burrs that fit a kony. I thought your choice to use mazzer originals was a mix of manufacture quality and taste etc.
;) So????
Actually you mentioned to me that I could fit these stainless if I wanted. :) Don’t fancy running another set in though and is the cut of these burrs any different?
The weight of the burr wont make much difference to the load on the motor, Niche’s would probably spin up Robur burrs without any problems. It’s just an inertial load until the motor reaches it’s designed speed.;) Not that I would try it.
The grinding rate is set by the burr design for some rotational speed. Faster it turns the higher the grinding rate. These are generic Kony burrs, probably the stainless ones.
Not sure if the image upload has worked.
The inner has a sloped cut. That is working against a straight edge initially and then a sloped cut in the opposite direction. This forces broken beans down through the burrs due to burr rotation. It’s similar to a screw. The slopes in the teeth mostly set the rate. Unlike flat they tend to self feed. Centrifugal force breaks the beans up on flats and forces them into grinding areas.

This is correct, I tried both Italmill burrs and Mazzer. The Mazzer burrs were superior in every respect, taste, energy consumption and quality. Overall performance was enhanced.
Hi @tompoland any further reflection on the GG burrs? Mine are grinding nicely for pour over. Will try for espresso over the weekend
Grahamsphillips no sorry. Been a tad distracted with life 🙂 summer holidays here regular invasions by herds of ankle biters.
Great to hear the GGs are working so well with pour over.
Hope to have more time this Sunday.
DavecUK haha! no no. they initially listened to me and then stopped when what I asked was too much in their opinion haha
dfk41 dude. you’ve gotta take a chill pill. We did 100% film it. Hugo 100% cut it. This silly escapade you have against everyone is really immature. I have been black listed by loads of companies. To save you the trouble, i’ll go ahead and block you from my youtube since I am so misleading. OH! fyi- I pay for the majority of what I have. Decent, EG1, SD40, most hand grinders, bentwood, timemore sculptor, wug 2, etc. Alright, cheers grumpy old man
Grahamsphillips I do think the niche is well built enough. I don’t like the flavor profile of the niche. I have actually done a lot of tests recently in conjunction with Gagne. Some interesting findings I’ll discuss soon that verify my disdain for the coffee the niche provides. And I won’t be testing the GG. The idea for new burrs on the niche was my idea. I reached out to John at GG. We were in talks for months and I gave him some ideas for different geometries. NExt thing I know, he has taken said ideas and started selling them.

This is all getting a little personal here; we could easily avoid this unpleasantness by being kind and learning to respect each other as a person. It’s fine to challenge the views but ….🤷♂️😞
I think the admin needs to clean the thread, where required.
LMSC I deleted my final unnecessary comment. It is frustrating to be constantly hounded by someone when they could easily ignore what I do. Apologies for letting it rile me up enough to return the “assholery”

I think people are doing that without my prompting …but as always we’re all friends here enjoying a mutual hobby (or obsession.
As always we should keep it fun and factual, thus benefitting all of us. Coffee is going through a great period, loads of good roasters, lots of new prosumer machines and the prosumer grinder offerings are kicking arse.
And getting this thread back to the OP theme will be cool too.
(not saying that recent posts haven’t been entertaining though 😉)
tompoland If Italmill burrs were going to be in the grinder originally and then Kony burrs, it may not be too much of a leap to suspect that GG burrs will be fine too.
Dave may not actually saying that. The motor as I understand it was an item that was refined over time.
If people want to try a different taste profile they could fit Italmill burrs for all of £68 but an interesting aspect ion conical is what can be changed to alter taste? Niche reviews - just how many kg has been run through them via reviewers but OK I use a bean that is likely to show more effect as they run in.
HU burrs have lost some of their shine with users. GG? Obviously an attractive commercial item to introduce. Reviews - some earn surprising amounts of money from doing them due to the number of people who make contributions to them. A reliable source of information? :) Yes I’m sure they are.
lancehedrick that verify my disdain for the coffee the niche provides
That will be interesting Lance.
I don’t imagine that there are many light roast espresso drinkers that would fall in love with the Niche flavor profile but there are certainly a bucket load of dark roast lovers that are enamoured by it.
I figure that we either like the flavor a burr produces or we don’t. I’m not sure that taste preferences need verification as such.
But sure, your findings may explain why you don’t like the taste in more objective terms and I’ll look forward to reading about them.
ajohn some are (e.g. Hoffman), some aren’t.
I’m not in the camp that regards all “influencers” as being intentionally misleading or biased. Not pointing at you because I don’t know you (BTW welcome to CT!) but there are those that seem to regard the lot of them as second cousins of the Anti-Christ.
Most of us scan multiple reviews as well as forums before buying. It’s not so much that any one review should be taken as gospel, but they can be useful when put together, especially from those who are financially impartial such as forum members.
But at the end of the day, the final arbiter of taste preference is comparing grinders on a bench with side by side espresso pours. But given that not everyone can afford to buy and sell grinders regularly, reviews have their place.
But sure, there are those whom I trust more than others.
tompoland oh sure! I’m not at all trying to prove they are bad by any means. I got so much ridicule for my disliking them I thought i’d toss them in an experiment I was doing. I do think a big part of their appeal is how easy the niche makes it to dial in. Huge margin of error for a decent shot.
And the GG thing is frustrating. Sucks to have an idea taken when in the midst of conversations. I originally tried to get Hansung to create the burrs with me, but he was too busy. John heard about my mission to create a better burr set and reached out to see if i;d want to work with him. we started, had many calls, and he was working on a contract between us. Before finalizing that, he took an idea we discussed in one of the zooms I gave him and launched his gg burrs. Quite frustrating, but cest la vie.
