Should I pack with brewer, grinder and beans on holiday?
Travel kit
I’ve taken the plunge and ordered one with 53mm tamper. Dammit @tompoland is right!!
@tompoland is a separate tamper really needed? I did buy one but note that on their website their usage instructions advise to use the plunger as a tamper, but Im guessing it’s a bit light or something?

My Staresso Pro (expected) arrived as Staresso Mirage Plus with unpressurised basket included. By means of my recently purchased 1Zpresso J-Max I Ground 18 g of beans and pulled the first shot (I need 53 mm tamper, next thing to purchase). It did not look like the ones in the YT videos but taste-wise was very good. I did not have the basket with the coffee in place when adding the water so it was dripping out and during the pumping stage I ended up with not enough water. Lesson learnt for future. All in all, very happy with this purchase.
Thank you @tompoland for bringing this up. And now you becoming influencer I can be one of the “influenced” people 😀
EDIT: I was very impressed with the service from Staresso. They added the unpressurised basket on top of already 30% cheaper product at no extra cost. One doesn’t come across such companies very often.

I second that. Mine arrived this morning, third gen Staresso, non pressurised basket included. Smaller baskets than the Evo, so nothing Evo will fit but I can turn an old tamper down on the lathe to size.
Very pleased with Staresso as a company.
kaykayblue I do. Make sure it is a brewer that can easily be used with a regular, hotel/kitchen kettle. Be sure to dial it in at home prior to going on holiday.
Don’t forget to take some brewing scales, pick up some low bicarbonate water, if needed, locally.
Exactly the same experience for me with delivery and the extra basket. First attempt had no crema but a good taste. I ground for normal espresso so will try a bit coarser to see if that helps with the crema. Seems well made and have high hopes for a good espresso with a bit more practice. Very good response from Staresso regarding the unpressurised basket.
Flair Classic plus J-Max for espresso, Aeropress/V60 with Aergrind/Feld 2, sometimes both/all
I have trouble settling on one thing
My staresso plus arrived today, with two naked baskets included. I am very impressed with the quality of coffee extracted. I’ve had 2, didn’t dial anything in with either. I used the same grinder setting I have been for the Vesuvius which was probably a bit fine but the coffee is lovely and smooth from the staresso. More faffing around than the aeropress with preheating parts of it etc. but very happy with the purchase
Talking of travel kits a member called prezez was selling his on here the other day and I saw his kit was kept in an aluminium flight/camera type case with foam cutouts to keep everything safe and snug, which I thought was a great idea and have asked Santa for one just like it. So, for me my Bella Barista USB grinder with brush, Brewista Smart Scales, V60 (01 or 02) some filter papers and some jars for my beans. Not sure I would bother with cups as prezez did, but obviously depending on what you take away when travelling can depend on what size used, it doesn’t have to be the size prezez used as there are smaller versions out there.
Just out of interest, how do any others on here transport their travel kit?
Pompeyexile I’ve built a few of the briefcase style travel bags. The easiest ones were from AliExpress. Hard plastic shell with foam inserts already in place. The easiest way is the get the type where the foam is partially pre-cut into cubes so you just pull out the ones that you don’t want. No cutting required. Tompoland….James Bond would be proud. So which part turns into a gun😁
Any ideas of Thanksgiving coffee recipe?

kaykayblue google tells me that a traditional Thanksgiving drink is Cranberry Mulled White Wine so maybe add a tipple to your espresso?
Of the other way around…
Today my 53 mm tamper has arrived and I immediately tested the Staresso, properly this time. Non-pressurised basket with 18.7 g coffee.
It exceeded my expectations. Although I do not have the 007 gear to put it in and take it with me, I look forward to our trip in December to Dublin. Very happy with my purchase.

John_Yossarian I love travel and also derive enjoyment from the morning coffee routine with the travel kit. Hope the Dublin trip goes well. Espresso in the morning, malt whisky in the evening?
