Cuprajake I moved to Octopus’ tracker last year.
Ask Octopus if you can get onto their tracker tariff. Slightly cheaper gas per unit. Much cheaper electric per unit. Both standing charges are cheaper as well.

Just had a look at that, thanks, unfortunately you need to have a smart meter installed and they’ve closed the tariff until July sometime.

Aye I’m a central heating/plumber/gas engineer and I’d never recommended at smart meter to anyone, I’ll certainly not be getting them any time soon.
ours actually has smart but they are first gen, tied to british gas, id not want one fitting,

Just a dumb meter now, or an ordinary meter, think you can go anywhere ie not tied to BG.

Across the Pond question here- is it your decision as a home owner what kind of meter you have?! Here in the states (in large cities that is) all of the gear up to your distribution panel is all owned and operated by the utility company. Same goes with water and sewer.
Had a smet2 smart meter fitted a couple of years ago because we got an EV and wanted a home charger which we couldn’t have if we didn’t have a smart meter. Can’t say I’ve noticed anything untoward and yes prices have risen but nothing to do with the smart meter as I got it before the leccy and gas hike and my bills never changed before that.
I’m with ovo and prices have changed for the better.
My smart meter is the gen1.
Pompeyexile Same here, I have got EV and home charger. Recently I moved to Intelligent Octopus and the price of charging my EV is amazing. I would not say that the smart meter is making me pay more for what we use. I am still trying to understand what about smart meter makes so many people to dislike it. I must be missing something.

OldGregg It’s the same over here, though sometimes we’ll have a main switch to isolate the supply after the meter, but everything after that is the responsibility of the home owner.
We don’t have a ‘choice’ per se, but the staggered/slow roll out of smart meters here means that some people still have the old style analogue or digital one way meters.
So I have finally got around to taking a look at my Octopus account. How does this compare to others?
Those standing charges are outrageous
I’m with OVO and paying 27.72p a day for gas and 41.67p a day for electricity.
Unit prices are 7.04p /kWh gas and because I’m on Economy 7 I have two prices for electricity.
At the moment the E7 time is between 1:00am to 8:00am and is 19.81p/kWh and the rest of the time its 33.62p/kWh.
I get to warm the coffee machine and have my first coffee before 8:00 every day which is a good saving.
dutchy101 my electricity standing charge is at 49 p per day. The gas standing charge is the same. You are at 8 p cheaper standing charge. I am with Octopus

Scandalous really
I’m with Octopus tracker until November hope I can extend this for another year.
Inspector hmmm i extended mine but they put me on the latest version of the tracker which has the higher daily rate and the cap on the electric and gas was much much higher than my old tariff….
just checked and it looks the same as the above.. i must have got lucky last year when i extended previously
