FadedFrontiers might be one of these on the cards for me then. Likely give it a few months to see how they fair in the hands of real people.
New Acaia scale without a display
HarveyMushman the manual is in the acaia website if you want to read beforehand…..
Will be interesting to see what its like - one issue I can see is if you use a sunken drip tray as the button forits on the front

Thanks, had a read. If it works as seamlessly as the guide makes out if should be really good.
I don’t have the recessed drip tray so should work well. I’m looking forward to not having the touch buttons on the top of the scale as I’ve had situations where some liquid from the group has dripped/sprayed onto the scale and ‘pressed’ the tare/timer buttons.

We shall await your review 😂
Ok so mine arrived this morning. It cost about £108 total. First impressions are that it’s heavy, very solid, very well made. There’s absolutely no buttons or anything on the top of the scale so nowhere for moisture to penetrate. The only button is a small ‘touch’ button on the lower edge. This is used for manual tare and switching it on/off.
Didn’t get off to the best start… apparently the Pearl S scales I have aren’t yet supported. I perhaps should’ve checked but assumed given the Pearl S is the newest model it would be fine… Apparently they’re adding support soon via a firmware update.
The selling point here really only applies if you already have a Pearl. I can’t see why you’d buy one otherwise. If you do have one though, it’s a very neat looking scale, low profile and again, really well made.
However you can use it with the Acaia app so I’m just doing that.

HarveyMushman no hope for my V1 Pearl then 😂.
Doesn’t stop me wanting one though.
I wonder the impact on battery if these were left on all the time? Thinking if in a recessed drip tray, save the hassle on lifting in and out.
It has an auto-sleep function I think and the it can be woken by the Pearl. So in theory yes you could leave it one the recessed drip tray and not have to take it out.
I’d imagine it would last quite a while between charges.

HarveyMushman nice 👌. Sounds promising for my eventual plan then
Sounds a bit shortsighted if they released it wothout having the main scales ready to support it - i guess it works with the lunar as well - but 100 quid for a acaia even it u just use the app is a good price even compared with other brands in the higher proce bracket….

Yeah it works with the other Pearl models apparently, just not the ‘S’. Apparently support is coming soon.
No idea why given how similar they are.

Ok as a FYI the free shipping was for coffee expo - so not sure how long that will continue for - and a £28 quid saving is quite a chunk!

And I have to admit… mine arrived yesterday.
First impressions.. a very nice package - it comes with the usual accessories, rubber mat, rubber stickered feet you can apply and of course the 100gram calibration weight.
As mentioned above it’s a very solid simple block with the single button with a multi coloured status light on the front.
Easy enough to pair.. I have tried it with both the app (brewmaster) and pairing with my Pearl.
It pretty quickly bounces between the pearl and umbra depending on which scale you put an item on - and one of the weight options will show weights on both on the pearl side by side (if you need it)
One point to note by default its set to auto-off after 5 mins rather then auto sleep - which you can change in the settings accessed via the app. Once set it goes off as you turn off the pearl - which is much more useful.
This would be good in the custom drip tray where the lunar is sat in the cut out and you therefore dont really need access to the button on the front.
I think even if you did not have any other Acaia equipment its current price point (with the free shipping) puts it right in the middle of niche coffee scales - making it cheaper than the Felicia arc and the bookoo
Cheers
Matt
Glad to hear you’re getting on well with it!
I’ve been using it with the app (apparently Pearl S support is coming soon) and it’s great how quickly the app wakes the scale up and pairs practically instantly.
I’m tempted to get the recessed drip tray now as I think it would indeed work well.

Funny enough at the moment i have swapped back to the normal micra tray as i am using the weber uni basket… so as the bottomless is a bit more messy i like to run the water through which was not so easy with the recessed tray on the smaller micra. But I suspect I will swap back at some point and then it would be a perfect non touch solution

I can see a need for this scale in certain scenarios. One is pulling turbo shots with a bottomless portafilter; spritzes and spills onto the touch buttons of a lunar can halt the scale. Fun if you have stop-by-weight on a supporting machine.
That’s a good point actually… I often rinse the basket under the group… I thought that was a fairly common thing to do but the Acaia presumably gets drenched.

Well the mini is a bigger machine !
I think new lunar and pearl s firmware has been released
I can see the Pearl S is now mentioned as supported and I’ve updated the firmware but unless I’m missing something it’s still not working.
I think there must be a different way of pairing on the Pearl S as when you follow the guide it just goes to the Pearl settings like brightness etc.
I’m going to email them again!

HarveyMushman Did you update to version D of the 009 firmware - you can pick from the list in then updater app assuming yours is the PS003/004 model ?
