I must say the renders that found their way out did look enticing! Last year, the announced expected price was 1000 GBP (probably + VAT).

@"pjw"#p6893 Well, allowing for things to have changed slightly in the pandemic, I would have thought a price around the £1400 to £1500 would be quite acceptable, although of course, the lower the better!

Argos is still being offered at 850 USD. Vectis can and will be more expensive, but probably not that much. 1500 GBP will too close to L Compressa. But we will see.

David may not be right, I remember a quoted price for it being £1,000…On HB Reiss was quoted as saying it was/would be more temperature stable than a Cremina and talked about simplicity. Perhaps he is aiming for the potential Cremina market? If he is, I think that’s a tough nut to crack.

At last, a small 58mm spring lever group. Direct fill, no pump, dipper fed, steam wand. 20cm wide, 30cm deep

That’s roughly the size of the Elizabeth, transposed, slightly smaller.

It’s a dipper though. I’d love to know what’s the trick on temp management.

Looks interesting though, and certainly something I’ll be eyeing out as my next machine, providing it can be demonstrated it delivers.

Cuprajake The price point is largely irrelevant until they are available Jake. All we have heard to date is promises and broken time tables all laced with the usual sprinklings of fairy dust. The Evo went from an idea we chatted about to production in 10 months, so what makes the little diddly so different. Personally, I would be surprised to see it surface anytime soon with the Argos looming, but what do I know.

Cuprajake - at the time, and not too long ago, they said it would be under £1,000. We will know when it’s out I suppose. But even then, new group, new machine. Would you part with £1,000 blindly? I wouldn’t. Now, if they have some good videos showing what the machine is capable of, what’s it like inside, etc, then it could be a winner. I’m certainly looking forward it it.

LMSC - not fussed about looks. More worried about form and performance, within reason, of course. The only reason I don’t have the V Evo is because it’s huge. Something the size of the Elizabeth or the MaraX (or the Vectis as per above) would be ideal, for me at least.

If they were to adopt Liz and Mara X size, we are essentially downsizing the boilers - like the size of Liz.

Would there be a space to fit other parts (electronics, displays, pump, etc), assuming ACS keeps everything else?
Perhaps, the Mara X size may work.
It’s going to have to be a super thick/ a solid SS to hold everything together, considering the dual spring group.

Should I have a wish list, love the LSM group, PID control would be great, a boiler cover (burns are part of the La Pavoni/Elektra MCAL owner experience, lol!), modest weight and proportions…Mara X sized would be brilliant for the modern sized kitchen

Spring or direct lever, either is fine if there can be assistance given to the spring , like the Gaggia Mini…

An open boiler is a much simpler beast in terms of stability but most people want steam….

Structural strength can be engineered in without spending a fortune on heavy plate, it’s a matter of intelligent design

With an electrically heated PID controlled group….the brew boiler could be much smaller. The issue is a machines tendency to topple over when equipped with a heavy commercial group and a long lever you have to pull. Unless you put a really weak spring in it.

I thought that the idea was to take the Cremina on. Apparently the Vectis (even though there are none in existence I believe) is already more temperature stable than the Cremina, according tolegend already put out, although I would take that with a pinch of fairy dust. The boiler on a Cremina holds 3.8 pints.

Don’t know about the Vectis; the Cremina comes in both versions, so in principle I don’t see why the Vectis couldn’t be sprung too. Quite whether either is stable mechanically and thermally… different question!

From my perspective, providing it delivers within acceptable parameters:

form factor (a lot smaller);
Price (£1k rather than £3.5k);

I don’t think it will kill the existing range, but it would rather complement the range if done right. For me, the main concerns as an end user are the the brand new group and it’s operational capabilities (temperature range, stability, monitoring, pressure range, etc). Hopefully all of those will be demonstrated at some point, openly. And, if it delivers, I’ll seriously consider it. Unless ACS comes up with their own… 😊
