Did anyone hear about this ? Got this link from someone who is very dear to me and cares about minimising wastes, environment, ….

Obviously, I thanked the person for sharing this link, praising for the effort and caring so much. Considering the price point, it is unlikely to be fresh but perhaps not stale enough to drink.

To be honest, I have seen some roasters still selling beans 2 months past the roast date. One roaster showed their roasted coffee - medium and medium dark, from 10 KG IKEA storage box.

Interesting idea and it’s good that it’s going to some use. Many people will be more than happy with it. I expect us lot might not be their target market, we will be worrying about why it failed QC at the roaster. Could be good for seasoning new burrs. Then again if you have a relationship with your favourite roasters, they’d probably sell you a few kg of QC fail beans for the cost of shipping, especially if you are buying some legit beans to drink at the same time. I have a vague recollection of having done this with Rave or someone similar. They also threw in a jute coffee sack that I hadn’t asked for, so I used it to reupholster 2 dining chairs.

General public will be happy to buy as £16 a KG is pretty cheap and better than what you find at the stores. But, let’s not forget Mystery is also similarly priced and the coffee is good.

Cuprajake Ah. Sorry, my bad. The Coffee Compass’s Mystery Mark 14. I have purchased their 13 and the 14. I was surprised, considering the price point.

LMSC I will happily drink coffee I roast 2 or 3 months later…even a coffee 2.5 months old will extract looking like it was roasted a week ago.

That oddcoffee’s likely to be Commodity coffee, isn’t it? How many ‘manufacturers’ (per their site) use Specialty?

Possible it is a commodity coffee. Their website only mentions best before in 12-15 months. Perhaps, will check with them.

We also consume beans roasted even 3-5 months earlier, of course from frozen.

I personally would not buy from them.

The capsule thing is understandable, but packaged coffee I don’t really grasp.

I’d happily however accept fresh coffee into a bag that was used previously to store coffee that didn’t sell. The coffee can go to compost, or be sold in bulk to coffee shops who don’t care how good or fresh the beans are.

        4 days later

I just saw this in my facebook feed and was wondering how fresh the rescued beans would be.

I was nearly tempted, but LMSC that seems like a way cheaper and better option. Are they speciality coffees and freshly roasted? The price is appealing.

I’ve been drinking coffee I roasted in August. It was fine until December really. I can certainly see why some would rest coffee for a month. It doesn’t go stale for quite some time if properly stored (as in rancid) but you might lose some flavours, then again other flavours might be there to take the place of what was lost. A roaster storing something in a 10kg container will probably sell that very quickly….unless they offer a huge range and don’t have many customers.

Haven’t tried their coffee, tbh. Grab a bag of 250g and see how it goes.

However, compass sells their Mystery 14 for ~£17; you can also grab CP from @BlackCatCoffee at similar price after discount. Both will have fresh roast dates and are very nice.

As Rob said, I still have beans in the freezer, which are 6 months old. They are excellent even now.

This is what they told me about their beans. Kind of similar to coffecompass but not sure if speciality.

I have purchased a lot of beans from Coffee Compass. Their bags always had a roast date.

Grab a 0.25 kg bag, if you are tempted. 😊

Sham hmm…not a coffee I personally would be buying….I like to pack ASAP, preferably whilst the coffee is still warm!

Tell me I am wrong, but I thought their USP was they collected coffee from roasters:
The Odd Coffee Company works closely with premium coffee roasters across England, helping to reduce their excess waste. We repackage the rejected and surplus coffee so you can enjoy quality roasted beans or pods at a fraction of the price.

Whereas the snippet above suggests they are having stuff, probably shite, roasted for them. If it genuinely is what they suggest, I think it is bloody expensive. If the roaster could not sell it first time round……..

dfk41 But couldn’t it also mean that the coffee beans that are, for example, 6 days past roast date that the speciality roasters don’t want to sell to their own customers (because they are past their aimed ‘best’ shipping date) so they sell it for cheap to these guys?

            • LMSC replied to this.

dfk41 I probably think it is a combination of commodity beans and the beans the roasters could not sell - perhaps roasted, say > 2 months ago and sitting on the counter or a 10KG container.

I do think some times you will get a decent bag and at home ****.

If I can’t pay more than £18 a KG, I would keep buying compass’s mystery mark 14 and signature blend from blackcat. Both are good coffee, IMO.

Sham I have received beans roasted > 3 weeks ago. They were very good.
