DavecUK I definitely recognise some of the names! Although, I have to admit the first time I saw this forum posted on the old one I thought it was spam.

Perhaps some sort of splash near the top of the home page explaining the purpose of the forum would help, like a box near the top of the page with a few sentence welcome message. Eg. “Welcome to Coffeetime, the UK’s friendliest coffee forum! We are a non-profit organisation run by coffee enthusiasts for coffee enthusiasts. Whether you’re a seasoned shot puller or just starting on your coffee journey, you’ll find yourself welcome in our community.”

Alexvs If you’re thinking of getting rid of any gear let me know though

The last machine I sold was to @Hotmetal I think that could have been 10 years ago now. I tend to acquire them rather than sell them. I suppose I should sell some of the machines it’s such a waste….I have quite a few hanging around.

Perhaps I will get around to putting a few packages together…because they don’t always come with portafilters and stuff….

DavecUK I actually read some posts where you were talking about that machine. You’re definitely dedicated and why I’m glad you’re around for such great advice. I’ll keep an eye open 😉. I’ve just placed an order for a Niche (March delivery) as then I don’t miss out on that batch if I decided to get one anyway later. I’m now more relaxed about finding the right machine.

Hey guys, I joined just a short while ago. I found the forum in a link on the Elizabeth review written by Dave Corbey. So glad to be here.

I am an eye surgeon in Northern California, USA. I must admit I had typically just enjoyed fresh ground drip coffee for all the year. My wife has to have her daily latte, so when the pandemic hit I did a bit of research and bought a Breville Barista Express. I learned watching videos etc, and could make a respectable coffee with that machine. We have our coffee drinks together. As my skills improved I really wanted to up my game with better equipment, which does make a difference it turns out. So I got a Niche Zero to use with my Express, which is dramatically better than the built in grinder. I just upgraded to the Lelit Elizabeth, which was recommended by a very knowledgeable fellow on another forum in the USA, and after some research and reading Dave’s review and watching his videos, I bought one. I am really pleased. I will hang out here from time to time when I can. This is such a good group here.

        Hi all,

I’m an Englishman living in Vietnam.

Other than a casual drinker, I’m pretty naive to all things coffee, but am very interested to learn. I’m happy to sit in the wings until I have something of value to add.

Saigon Welcome to the forum! This forum is full of resources and knowledgeable members. Hang in here and please don’t hesitate to shoot your doubts.

dndrich Welcome to the forum! Niche and Liz are a nice combo. Please share your set up.

LMSC Thanks! I’m thrilled with it. Really nice consumer grade stuff. The Niche is just superb, and a pleasure to use. Similarly the Elizabeth it outstanding for home use. Dual boiler in a compact footprint with great temperature control and steam. Café quality espresso and milk drinks. And that Lelit drawer knock box is super nice too. The grinder sits on top, so it is actually a space saver while having a nice big space for coffee pucks. It came free from the vendor with the machine.

dndrich welcome to the forums! This is pretty much my goal set up, not 100% set on which espresso machine I want to get yet but I know I want to acquire the niche at some point this year.

@dndrich Saigon Welcome to the forum, looking forward to hearing about your respective coffee journeys, and opinions on our particular brand of madness.

Happy to be here! I can use the help!

Good evening. I used to lurk on “the bad place”, but I’ve decided to sign up here.

            The atmosphere seems…nicer here.

Currently using a Bambino Plus, alongside Eureka Specialita. The grinder will be staying, the Sage will be upgraded. I’m Dublin based, but a brother lives in Belfast, so ordering from decent sources will be though his address.

Prepare for the big question…Lelit Elizabeth or ACS Minima?

              StephenM Welcome to the forum!

What’s your budget please ? If you can afford only one of those two, both are nice machines. Minima if you are ok with the little noise as Liz is small, compact and quieter.

Where are you on the water side? How many cups do you make a day? How many of them are milk-based ? 😊

LMSC I’m rather fortunate in that the budget will stretch to either machine. I know they’ll be quite a step up from Sage, but I wanted to get the basics of tamping, steaming, etc., sorted first.

In relation to water, and being in Dublin, hardness is high. I’ll adjust that via bottled water or by softening the water. Descaling is part of my routine with my current set up.

I make two to three cups per day, and steam milk. Two of the drinks would be back to back.

Hey all! Heard the cool kids have come here so the sheep has followed. NGL, am finding this a lot harder to navigate than the old place, but teething problems I’m sure! Am not quite in on the reason everyone’s moved - and if everyone comes over, doesn’t this just become the new old place?

youClown Welcome, you’ll likely come past a post or two on the reasons for this forum existing on your searches. It is a little different to navigate but I’ve come to prefer it as can see all unread posts easily without going through the sections. If everyone came over, it’d have the minds of the old place but the spirit of the new and think that’s the main intention. It’s just a super friendly place to be for us coffee crazed loons, on a freely hosted forum.

                  Enjoy your stay!

youClown I’m not sure that we are that cool, I think all the really cool people went somewhere else…However, we are proudly uncool enough to want to take the time and trouble to help others enjoy coffee as much as we do. Sometimes the really cool people are too busy being cool 🤣

                    Welcome to the forum.
