Hi all,

Been a bit of a lurker on various forums but thought I’d finally sign up. Current gear: Cafelat Robot, Niche, Wilfa Uniform, V60 and Aeropress. Hover between Espresso, Pour Overs and Aeropress in my probably over-caffeinated days…

    hi
some of you might remember me from the “other forum” which in my eyes went to shit a while back. Personally I threw out my espresso machine rather than go through the agro of trying to sell it as the “cleaning nut” under the assembly was sold to me seized without my knowing so it could not be disassambled and cleaned. Ironically the brand new eureka mignon mk2 I bought from BB is also seized which I only found out when trying to clean it when the warranty had run out. As you can tell I have bad luck when buying and selling stuff.

As a result I’ve been using the grinder uncleaned for about 5 years now, but it still tastes ok, I got the grounds out from the top the best way I could. At the moment I grind and then do a pour over but trying to figure out how to steam milk without an espresso machine.

I really want a synkronika but every time I have £2k spare to buy one I end up buying other stuff instead. It seems like a ton of money for 300 drinks a year.

So anyway…hi. I don’t really have anything to contribute coffee wise.

thesmileyone - hello there, in the words of Skid Row… “I remember, I remember…. Yooouuuu!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Welcome to the forum. I’d love to know more about what exactly was seized in your grinder and coffee machines. I can’t believe it had to be thrown away, or that it can’t be cleaned.

There you go, an excuse for starting a new thread!

thesmileyone - On the Classic, yeah. I had one for 3 years and, as long as you keep it clean, it should be fine. If it’s stuck, it’s only cemented coffee grounds. I remember back in the day using nose pliers to shock the plate and therefore unstick it.

In all honesty, with all this coffee equipment, if you keep it clean, well maintained, it will last you a long time.

It wasn’t that, all of the hex nuts under were completely round. I had bought it second hand from someone from the other forum, and I didn’t check, as it was my first “decent” espresso machine. I lived with it for 3 years without cleaning it other than using the cleaning stuff in the tank and those tablets you put in with a blanking plate, then it got too dirty and with no way of cleaning it I just took it to the tip save trying to sell it with an explanation or whatever. I’ve given stuff away before to people like amplifiers and people find the audacity to complain about charity (and even charity shops are picky now) so these days I just bin stuff for an easier life.

          Hello!

New here and to coffee forums in general, though it seems they are a rabbit hole similar to audio forums!

Currently I have a specialita grinder and a terrible 15 year old gaggia thing.

Now looking to get a new machine and tying myself in knots looking at different options.

So here I am, teetering on the edge of another rabbit hole.

Penance There is a weath of choices available to you and lots of experience an expertise available from the members of this forum.

What are the things you want to get out of upgrading.

DavecUK indeed, I spent a lot of last night browsing the forum.

I’ll start a thread for help/advice on my next purchase :)

hi all, i’ve been signed up here for a while but after browsing a bit got caught up with other things before posting anything. i’ve been on the other forums on and off the last few years, and mainly drink espresso brewed on a humble old, but scrupulously cleaned, classic and a eureka mignon.

Hi everyone….New to this forum, was on previous. (I think my forum claim to fame (in my mind) was being one of the first to discover the bad magnet issue on the Vesuvius). Still with Vesuvius and a drawer full of spares.

Hi! Just noticed the introductions thread. Some time ago I didn’t drink coffee at all, and I felt fine. Over time, things have changed, and I noticed that I drink coffee every day, and even several times a day! In this regard, I am just discovering the coffee world, and I came here so that more experienced guys would help me on this journey. All coffee!
