On this current iteration - from perfectly clean inside, it ate about 0.5-0.6g on the first dose. I use a Mr. Puff regardless of the burr set and see about the same amount coming out but I don’t feel RPM is an issue. I have no idea about longevity of the gearset though - gear reduction and motor torque seems sufficient so far.

Alignment is what I want to focus (what little time I have) on to understand the stiffness of the whole assembly and what is achievable without shimming.

What will worry me is tolerances between grinders - I wonder if Niche will tell me what their designed tolerances are 🤭

I would have to think that the next Niche will be a 54mm or 60mm flat at a similar price point. Crossing fingers.

Cuprajake ‘need’ - probably not.

Is there a market for a flat burr grinder the price of the niche? I certainly think so. Current options don’t have the same reputation.

The burr size is small for flats isn’t it? Given there seems to be so much talk about bigger being better, is it worth it for you can’t use larger burrs?

I guess depending on price people can experiment without buying a whole new grinder.

64mm readily available and easier to make

I don’t have Niche. But, it appeals every one not just in terms of the price, the simplicity of its’ workflow and an easy switch between filter and espresso in the single dosing department. The solo and Eureka are there but they have issues. I think these are the reasons why folks may be keen to see Niche with a flat burr. But, anything less than 63-64 mm may not appeal.

All very well to say “I can fit flat burrs on the Niche….” But the real questions are:

  • Will it be usable?
  • Does it actually work?
  • What’s retention like?
  • How long does it take to grind?
  • Does it stall?

We all see some video of someone installing the burrs with some music on the background. I have’t seen one of it grinding coffee…. :-)

If I were niche I’d be voiding warranty if any one did this.

My main concern would be the motor, the way flats and conicals work are different, they need different speeds and torque.

I’d bet the ‘mod’ will be a couple hundred plus your burrs of choice.

MediumRoastSteam I would expect them to grind and pull at least a shot! It is a standard practice.

    Edit:

I don’t have an instagram account. I did see one video of the seller swapping the burrs and nothing else. I don’t know, if there are more than one video.

LMSC is there a youtube video?

If you click on those links above, ultimately it’s a video. They’re public, you don’t need an Instagram account.

I’m guessing the flow control disc helps with the power requirements. How much is a Lagom or that Chinese thing (solo?).

LMSC Nope, unfortunately! It asks me to sign in either Facebook or instagram! :-)

You are right! - I’m now confused! it allowed me to watch the video earlier, but now it asks me to sign in.

        No thanks! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
