  • Coffee Compass Mystery 15

Just ordered the mystery 16 as well as an espresso selection pack (3×500g), selected Brighton Lanes, Cherry Cherry and Sweet Bourbon.

Look forward to trying all of these as both an espresso and as filter

@Doram reporting back. I didn’t get any information about the beans as it is part of the mystery apparently.

Too risky and potentially wasteful. I’ll stick to Pennine or have a go with Green Coffee Collective.

Thanks for the update! Can’t blame you. To be honest, Coffee Compass used to be my regular supplier until they upped the price of greens, making them too close to the price of roasted IMO.

So I moved to Penine, and happy with them. I also have some coffee from the Collective which I still enjoy, but I have not seen much activity there recently. If you happen to see anything going on there, I would appreciate a shout (it’s my wife’s account so I don’t check very often).

Don’t understand tho how giving information about altitude and process would harm in any way?

I pointed out the 16 to a friend who got some thinking I was recommending them. He’s now not happy with me as they are very dark roast and too bitter for his taste. His guess is maybe Ethiopia, v small beans apparently.

Tal medium to medium light. So not saying that is not good, it’s just not to his taste. Dramatically so.
I like the mystery Insight subscription above as I know I’m getting light roasts. But if this mystery can be any level of roast or any country then I think that’s too much of a risk.

That basically sums up my feelings on the #15, way too dark for me so I won’t be trying again.

I was going to say Ethiopian (and Kenyan) beans roast darker in appearance due to sucrose released during roasting but then I noticed Coffee Compass do an ‘Extra Dark’ Ethiopian roast.

It must be practically pure black!

      Ikawa Roaster

CoffeeCompass roasts darker than most roaster I’ve used. It doesn’t mean their coffee is not good - it’s just a different taste. I particularly think they are roasted very well, and the beans, in my experience, are not bitter, at all. In fact, I do enjoy their coffee now and again.

But if you don’t like coffee roaster dark… then coffee compass may not be your first choice.

Has anyone tried the new mystery bean? Its a pretty good deal for green, so tempted to get some, but don’t want a dud!

I might try some of the latest roasted one, I had a look on their website earlier and they do medium roast as well as dark to v dark but no light roasts.

Totally forgot about these. Used to love the Mystery offering

      Ordered 👌

This was £18 a kg last year so like everything else price has gone up about %22.5 :( let us know how you get on please, I still have some beans but these could be my next order.

It’s OK, quite a dark roast so having to have mine with milk.

        Wouldn’t get another bag unfortunately
