After having COVID my sense of smell and taste came back about after a month. (Still not %100 though) That’s why I decided not to make coffee and waste beans in that time 😂

I had covid about a month ago. Same as you, I was off coffee for a few days. Then one morning I felt better, went to make my usual flat white and was surprised by the taste of nothing. Not quite nothing, I could taste the bitter end notes of the coffee but only that. Thankfully it wasn’t much in that particular cup. I would say I couldn’t taste the acidity, the body (do you “taste” body?) and most of the chocolate notes. Over the next few days my taste gradually came back and I started tasting more chocolate and then the acidity in that order. I would describe it as a “hole” in the centre of the palate/taste experience. Quite a shock at first. I think mine’s all come back now so hopefully yours does too. In my experience as a healthcare worker, it’s a minority that experience loss of taste and for most people it’s transient. So cheer up, the numbers are on your side!

Inspector I decided not to make coffee and waste beans in that time

I kept making my coffees because it was a nice routine and I needed the caffeine to be able to take care of a toddler who was somehow sick, cranky and energetic all at the same time! Also I didn’t particularly like these beans and I had to get through 1kg of them! A wine-loving friend told me something about “re-training” the palate so I may have benefited from that maybe?

I had Covid all last week and still tested positive today. Coffee notes have been off all week. Thought my puck prep was out as I recently got a new WDT tool or that the beans were starting to age but the wife’s Chicken Tikka Masala which is usually spot on wasn’t right either this evening so I knew it was the covid when I saw this post…

Alpesh try mixing your morning coffee with your wife’s leftover chicken tikka masala from last night and you’ll be surprised how disgusting it is.

Let me guess all you people that have had covid are all double jabbed and triple jabbed?

drdre89 Why do you ask? It seems like you might be going for some deeply flawed statistical analysis to suggest any of the vaccines inherently increase the risk of getting covid, but I wouldn’t want to make that assumption….

I had it in December, got lucky and didn’t lose my sense of taste and smell but did feel fatigued for about 4-5 days.

Took about 5 weeks for my taste and smell to come back fully.

        3 months later

Three months has now passed and I’ve just walked down to the roastery and bought my first bag of freshly roasted beans since Covid.

For a good month or so I couldn’t stand coffee at all, after that it tasted like bad coffee so I just drank instant. after a while I began to get some sort of taste back and bought several bags of supermarket beans to keep me going and try to develop my taste buds. This week I finished a bag of Lavazza and one of Tesco’s Finest and felt I was ready to move up. So tomorrow morning I will be opening a bag of Carringtons DogHouse Espresso beans. It’s been a long time!

Pleased to hear you’re able to taste the good stuff again finally.
