I thought we had a thread on white goods. I couldn’t find despite searching a lot.

Anyway, our 8 years’ John Lewis condenser tumble dryer is on its’ way out. Electronics have always been a problem with this machine. Most of the functions won’t work. The door catch and hinge pins are now broken; replacement parts are in the post. We thought it is worth risking £27 pounds than shelling out £800-£900.

We realise we are on a borrowed time and likely to replace it soon. There are no windows unless we open the utility door, when the machine is running.

We are indifferent between condenser and heat pump versions.

  • Is there a preference here please ?
  • Bosch, LG, Samsung, Miele are popular ones. Miele is as usual on the expensive side, although the users seem to report a grinding noise in their heat pump versions.

Given the current energy prices, energy efficient machine is preferred.

We would appreciate any recommendations.

Don’t buy hoover or Kenwood and also don’t buy from Currys

In march 2021 when we moved into our new house, we got a new hoover washer dryer, and a Kenwood fridge freezer. Both integrated.

    The fridge is rubbish,

The washer makes constant beep noises the display is flashing. even with the 10yr warranty. They say we have to pay and book a repair, pay for labour, parts will be under warranty.

The fridge Currys wouldn’t replace in the 10 day period, they were shocking I should have pushed it further

Decent De1pro v1.45 - Niche Duo - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -

We have a Bosch T/D thou not condensing, wife says it is excellent pos 10 yrso.

Miele washing M/c and dishwasher= very pleased with both. Fridge freezer Hisense very happy with it.

LMSC I have the heat pump dryer from John Lewis, although, it’s a rebadged AEG. The model was John Lewis JLTDH23 8kg Heat Pump Condenser Dryer. Now discontinued, it was an 8Kg inverter model. The closest AEG to it is this one.

Unfortunately they are considerably more now.

There is apparently a used one on a site I’ve never heard of? massively cheap at £185!!

The inverter heat pump driers are excellent and very energy efficient, they also don’t damage clothes like normal tumble driers because they are much more gentle with the heat. On mine there is a hard to find setting for dryness which you need to turn up, to ensure clothes come out dry…it has a sensor. Can’t recommend enough.

We’ve got a Bosch condensing T/D - only three years or so in. One part replaced under warranty. No quibbles, quick and efficient.

Careful of heat pump T/Ds if you don’t have a well insulated warm home.

May not be helpful but drying clothes in a dryer significantly reduces the integrity/quality of clothes.

I appreciate air drying comes with challenges around ventilation but it’s also free (assuming you do it when the heating is already on in Winter and outside in Summer) and doesn’t damage garments.

I’ve got a hotpoint condenser dryer. It’s a very basic model - single dial timer - think it cost £120. Other than two replacement belts it hasn’t missed a beat in the 20+ years I’ve had it.

If there’s any warmth we use a rotary clothesl line in the garden, when there isn’t they go on a clothes horse in the hall by a radiator, always dry in the morning.

Careful of heat pump T/Ds if you don’t have a well insulated warm home.

It’s not a problem, my home is between 9 and 14C, often I dry at night when it’s at the lower end. The utility room actually warms up slightly when it’s in use as well, because of course the system is doing work and some of that warms the environment. really think they are great, until mine breaks down of course…. 🤔

I don’t dry elsewhere in the house because of damp, don’t want to risk it.

A heat-pump condenser tumble dryer is by far the most economical energy-wise. We bought the full range Miele (to replace the full set Zanussi), extractor, dishwasher, washing machine, oven, fridge and this tumble dryer:

        https://donaghybros.co.uk/miele-ted265wp-freestanding-8kg-t1-heat-pump-tumble-dryer-white.html?msclkid=105ef2eba4241ba3996c96e76faba0b2&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=UK-Search-DSA%20(10%25%20CoS)&utm_term=tier4&utm_content=UK-DSA-Products-t45

The quality and the economy are times better that our previous Zanussi one.

The washing machine had the motherboard replaced under warranty but since then it has been fine. Our electricity bill as well as water consumption dropped significantly.

It was an expensive investment and it took deliberation as Miele is not what it used to be 15 years ago with 10 year warranty. The claim is they have been stress tested for 20 years continuous use.

Miele have quite serious discounts around Black Friday and Christmas, something I missed.

Good luck with your next purchase.

There is a bugget at the moment, reply, quote and like are not working…plus some other things. I don’t know what the problem is. I have reported it though….I think it’s related to an upgrade done today.

Thx for the update Dave. I thought something is wrong my iPhone! 😊

DavecUK It is back, everything works 😀

John_Yossarian It is back, everything works 😀

It is, but sadly, no everything doesn’t work as it should…fortunately most of the things are invisible to you guys, but some of my levers no longer work as they should. Hopefully will be fixed in the fullness of time.

DavecUK I hope it will get sorted out.

PortafilterProcrastinator If you had one in a garage or shed, then yes at about6C it won’t get got enough. In a homes utility room though, even if the house was unheated, that local environment would soon be warm enough for it to work.

I love mine…really good and with no fire worries or cloths damage…minimal creasing too.
