Teaboy when do you think you’ll get the Philos?

Probably won’t. Mazzer said they would send me one if I wanted, but I never followed up on it.

    Teaboy

Once mazzer or our mazzer distributor decide to make it available for purchase (as long as the price is somewhat reasonable and there are no obvious problems flagged by early reviews). It will be seeing light commercial use so we can’t really go for something like a T64 or even a niche duo

Coffee Roaster. Home: Sage Dual Boiler, Niche Zero, Ode v2 (SSP), 1zpresso ZP6 Work: Eagle One Prima EXP, mahlkonig e80s, Mazzer Philos and lots more

Was there any particular reason you didn’t want to test it? Lots of people would very much value your thoughts on it!

I just never got around to contacting them….too many other things going on….

Is this now impossible to purchase?

Been contemplating a grinder upgrade (currently have a 50mm Eureka Mignon Facile for espresso), been sort of hankering for a niche zero for the low retention and easy switching between grind settings for different beans.

Just caught up with this thread and it seems the grinder is a viable alternative to the df64v and niche zero?

Just to add, When they replied to my email ( I was asking if i was still getting my grinder) they did say they were NOT discontinuing it but were reserving it for store visitors and direct enquiries.

Ironically i have already sold my “DF” that they are allowed to publicly advertise and am hoping the “T” is better. It has to equal the Duo to stay - or i have the duo and use the T for Judes Decaf!! Jury is still out on the Key.

Ade Smith. ACS Evo Leva v2. Kafatek Flat max 2, ssw 2024. Mazzer Philos, Craig Lyn HG-1 prime., WW key mk1.

        About Me

Adrianmsmith T is way way better than the DF. I have a DF64 and DF64V, it is better than either of them.

I understand about the W Key, it’s not for everyone and certainly didn’t suit me, I suspect you are finding the same. Fortunately it’s sought after so you should have no trouble flipping it.

Has anybody asked about shipment to US?

I don’t get the hype for this, it’s just a rebadged Chinese grinder… Chinese grinders are really good these days, but I guess BB selling it makes it more ‘legit.’

Sham There are plenty (and that is an understatement) of Chinese grinders and they can be from very bad to very good. This one is tested and recommended by @DavecUK and that is not something to sneeze at. We hyped for a reason, too bad the grinder itself didn’t fly because of reasons not related to its quality

delta76 honestly there’s a few other good ones on AliExpress that if Dave tested would be as good as this one, but much cheaper as it’s directly from the source. Of course you trade price with lackluster customer support, but I’d rather not pay a ‘middle-man’ fee if I don’t have to.

Sham show me one that could be as good, but cheaper. 459 GBP was with SSP burr which is worth 180 GBP alone

This one’s pretty good, albeit no speed control. I got this one for cheap, it comes with two copy SSP burrs for filter and espresso. Also here’s the exact grinder as the T64, price isn’t great but likely cheaper on Alibaba…

dfk41 Because I have one… also the exact one from this thread is on AliExpress.

Sham So, you base these Chinese grinders advertised on a Chinese website as being good simply because you have one? Are you an engineer? Have you conducted any meaningful tests that I ought to see so I can or cannot draw the same conclusions? If you are not the sort of person who values ‘middle man’ customer service then I hope that you get many years decent service out of your purchase……..of course there is a caveat……I think more people are going to take note of a recommendation made by @DavecUK after a period of testing and use than what would appear to be your questionable recommendation but hey ho!

dfk41 I say it’s good because it grinds well for the price… I thought that would be obvious. Also yes I am an engineer (bachelors in mechanical and a PhD in manufacturing). Of course I appreciate someone’s opinion who has tested a product, but that wasn’t the point I was making. The point was that everyone’s focusing on this ONE Chinese grinder because Dave has tested it, and STILL saying other Chinese grinders are not good (when in fact this is merely a Chinese grinder that BB thought they could make some £$ reselling).

Sham My understanding of the situation, and I might well be wrong, was that BB as they often do, asked Dave if they could send him a grinder. He normally says yes but within a couple of hours knows whether it is going to bring anything new to the table. This time Dave sent feedback to the firm and they were impressed enough to immediately implement. Am I saying that the Dave factor is worth anything additional…….yep………there must be dozens of coffee manufacturers out there who would wish they could persuade him to help them with their project…..when I say help I should really say unpaid help since Dave does not charge these firms anything for the work he does…….so there is a plethora of bad Chinese grinders, some of which Dave has seen and others he has not. There are also some success stories. Can you blame BB for trying to find products not stocked by the other usual coffee retailers? I suspect though have no proof that they do not bother with a lot more than they do….
