What did postman bring today ?
2 sets of cheap scales and 2 cheap timers……they might not be pretty or accurate but when I spill liquid on them, I do not care!
Cuprajake Be interesting to see the roast coffee and a bit about how they taste…especially whether they match any taste notes on the bag. Can’t quite make out what the coffees are?
Ive been inpressed with northstar so far.
The 1kg is Brazil Fazenda Rainha Da Paz
Milk Chocolate | Date | Hazelnut
This one tastes of all three, esp the hazelnut. When youve finished the drink and the cups been left theres such a nice aroma, almost a butterscotch smell
The second is El Salvador Finca Margarita
Cherry | Orange | Marzipan
Ive one tried this one once and was a tad out on the dialing in, ran a bit quick. For a first time i had a sweet aftertaste with what i describe as a coated tongue, and thats through a eb super fine basket

Not quite received today but did get this email today! Black Friday was funny (sorry couldn’t find that thread to post this on so thought I’d throw it up here!) but now they using Valentine’s Day to sell off at discount?!!
There are approximately 250 special days in the year for the UK calendar, the enterprising roast can have a lot of discount days.

This month we could have:
- Apprenticeship Coffee (Celebrating National Apprenticeship week)
- World Orphan Week Coffee - that would be a good one for Orphan Espresso to do
- Shrove Tuesday Coffee - A special that tastes of Pancakes with sugar and lemon
There are so many days…..
Waitforme I had a kilo of Django’s Los Angeles a while back and just bought another. An excellent coffee, especially at their Kilo price. I got extra lucky, they sent me a code for like 20 or 25% off, so it would have been less than £20! So I added a bag of the Gatare to put through the Aeropress too.
Yes, it’s a very nice coffee @Hotmetal , I’ll certainly be buying from them again.
Just ordered 5 × 250gm bags from Rave, 3 bag coffee bundle, a bag of Guatemalan and a bag of Rwandan, got 15% discount as it was my first order from them.
I was tempted to order from Coffee Compass, the mysterious Kg price is bonkers.
These came yesterday curtesy of Brita. Checking my water as I am getting a blue film at the bottom of my kettle. Was wondering if it’s worth buying a ph meter.
Meldrew Was wondering if it’s worth buying a ph meter.
I have one, but they are a bugger to keep active. Mine has a glass electrode where it has to be soaked in a potassium chloride solution…for 24hrs if it’s dried out!
What does the kit show and is your kettle a steel one?
DavecUK It’s a stainless steel kettle which was brand new when I fitted the filter which is Brita st purity C unit to a tap.The water is showing 6 / 6.5 with ph indicator, after the filter with a GH of 179ppm, KH 107ppm. I was going for the Osmio but making room for one was not quite acceptable by the wife. Still working on her.

Meldrew 6 to 6.5 is about as acidic as milk.
Does your purity have a fixed or variable bypass, which number is it a 50, 150, 300? If it’s variable, what do you have it set to?
DavecUK I was unsure doing this as the ph had dropped. The water is hard here. I will do some tests and try dropping the bypass to maybe 20% and keep an eye on things . I would rather test on a kettle where I can see the results and ensure all is correct before I take the plunge and purchasing my machine and do any harm to it. Here is a picture of the film that was in the kettle.

DavecUK Thanks for the help Dave. I will definitely turn the bypass down to 20% and see how I go. Would you say it’s worth getting the ph meter if I manage to look after it well. Hanna do one for about £54. I would get a more accurate reading then. How low can it go before it becomes a issue .
