For this machine it's one of the first made, and I am doing an Engineering review on it for Antonio (the creator) as a favour, so I can't really comment at this stage. But I can post photos….and say that the Paddle levers on this are very basic beta ones….so that area is still in the design melting pot.

I love the look of these sorts of lever machines, but they really need to at least try to make them a bit more compact in design. They're either lacking in that area of expertise or they don't care… A more compact design would look like a much better centre piece in a kitchen (and take less space in a commercial setting), rather than protruding till the near edge. The size distracts from the elegance of it.

@"Sham"#p10001 I agree when it comes to similar sized Levers that require external plumbing or flojet type arrangement. But the Nurri is dual boiler and plumbing is optional. Still, I agree that it's a lot for a normal kitchen. I like the footprint on the Decent for example.

@"tompoland"#p10007 In that case they should have either decreased tank sizes and utilised quicker water heating technology (I'm sure there's loads of options from other industry's) or started with a more wide design but I guess that would've cost too much R&D time. One way to think of it is that they won't lose customers if its small, but they will lose customers if its too big. It does look pretty nice though.

Sorry mate, it’s not really that bad.
It’s just that it covers the lovely “Nurri” cut out and doesn’t look stable enough to put the scale underneath.
I’d also be concerned about it marking the front.

Manufacturers are catching up with a lot of thing so hopefully scale friendly designs are coming.

Yes very tiny. Had one to try but sold it because the size of the lunar was more practical. It would have been a good option for the Nurri tx Jake but unfortunately it doesn’t come in white.

I’ve poured some shots with the AE stand and it worked pretty well.

This pic shows plan b which is a taller espresso cup (Fellow Monty Cup - Matte White/Copper - 6.5oz) alongside the AE stand, both on top off Lunar scales.

The gap between the group head and the top of the taller cup will work fine and I’ll see if I can get the local engineering shop to copy the Nurri riser, only wider.

I actually don’t use the wire stand that comes with the machine hardly at all nowadays since I put my timemore scale underneath. Once I put either a bodum or a kruve cup underneath the portafilter, i find the cup is high enough, so I find the height to be perfect actually.

That’s a good height between drip tray and group, that’s one thing that really annoys with a lot of machines

By the time you have scale and cup under the group it’s really tight.

Cuprajake - if I want to put a small espresso glass really close to the group with the Elizabeth, I just put an upside down cup on top of the scale, and then the espresso cup on top of it. Simples. 😊😉

(Ps: it also has a platform, but… meh)…. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I happened to come across this video and realised it was shot by Antonio nurri showing him using his machine with a blind filter and then releasing the pressure with the left paddle. As the video shows the lever handle rises smoothly and at a safe speed. I trust that this video is what you were looking to see, Jake?

(Unfortunately this forum doesn’t seem to allow Facebook links but the video can be googled by searching for Talk Coffee’s #2 video on the nurri.)

Despite Nurri only keeping the lever depressed (and the pump switched on) for only 3 to 4 seconds, the rate of ascent of the leve handle once the left paddle is engaged is still at a safe speed.

That’s the great thing about being hobbyists - we don’t have to work to a budget.

chlorox I think the only situation where one could be in danger for any lever is if one pulls down the lever of any machine out there on an empty portafilter - the one big no no of spring lever practice.

Another situation that happened to me a few times with the Izzo until I found the cause - group seal drying out to be rock hard causing portafilter to unlock during extraction. No damage though beyond a broken cup once. I don’t expect it to be an issue with the Nurri though as the quick warmup doesn’t mean 16 hours of heat per day like the Izzo had (plus maybe silicone standard?)

That’s interesting- I didn’t change the gaskets on my izzo for a very long time and towards the end of my ownership of it, it did have the tendency to require me to crank the portafilter extra deep in just to make sure it didn’t work itself loose and pop the portafilter out. So your story may have resolved that particular mystery for me.

On the nurri - u r right there; I generally leave it on for only as long as it takes to warm up (15 mins) and to make my shots and then I turn it off.

Short heatup’s definitely a killer feature.

Plus additional pros:
- Protection of electronics - I’ve seen heat shields in other machines
- kitchen will be a few degrees cooler!
- colleagues on web meetings will no longer be able to say, “Heh Google, turn off coffee machine”

Cons:
- Too convenient to have another coffee.

The group seal was crazy hard, shattering when getting it out (I thought only latex could get that hard.)
