Thanks folks, I quickly realised that when I tried it out at temp/pressure. The other spring back in now. It does seem like the spring is the cause of the stiff lever action for venting though? I might look for a replacement… Any thoughts on the excessive water discharge issue?

Also!!!
The piece you had “stuck”. Small face goes down not up. If you think of it as a top hat it goes upside down.

If you disassemble again please post a picture of all of the parts laid out as you will reassemble them in the orientation you intend to reassemble.
Also confirm the cam is correct and you fitted the cam lever first then the top and bottom chambers.
I’m still thinking assembly issue, sorry as it really can’t be wrong if it’s clean and moly on all springs and surfaces for assembly.

Adrianmsmith ok will do tomorrow morning thanks again
Adrianmsmith Hi, I disassembled again, here’s some pics, orientation as I disassembled and reassembled. molycote everywhere, all along spindle, all around cam, all around valves where they meet anything else, put back together again, cam first, top barrel, bottom barrel, lever, and it’s still stiff. The only time it hasn’t been stiff is when I changed that spring!

Adrianmsmith yeah that wasn’t an issue, it was sitting correctly, I was just unfamiliar with it and had ruled everything else out, apologies for going on about it - speaking about your post with the diagram, piece I thought was stuck
DavecUK Hi Dave, that sits in the bottom barrel, as per my previous post to @Adrianmsmith just now, I had thought that was causing an issue due to my lack of knowledge but it obviously wasn’t, so, that went back in as it had come out, sitting down snug into the bottom barrel. I had never removed that before yesterday, so it’s not causing any issue

JahLaza is it a viton rubber seal or a metallic spacer?
Below is a generic E61 group (not a Vesuvius one) disassembled and all the parts in the right place.

Photo from when I had mine. The “top hat” sits upside down as it were - under the spring.

Also note the orientation of this piece, compared to yours.
Did you have the machine from new?
DavecUK Also note the orientation of this piece
Omg I’m starting to cuss myself now!! Yes that piece is incorrectly orientated in my pic, but I have it sitting correctly in reality, and it has been sitting the correct way all along - the fatter/wider side to the bottom sitting into the barrel. Yes I have the machine from new - march 2022. The other piece you ask about as specified by @Adrianmsmith is a metal piece with a couple of drilled holes in the bottom section
JahLaza This piece is wrong orientation

Adrianmsmith This piece is wrong orientation
I took a few photos to try show everything as clearly as possible that’s the best I could get. The narrower side of that piece is on the bottom, the narrower side of it is sitting down into the barrel, the wider, flange side on top, is that correct? I’m aware that the preinfusion spring is absent on the Vesuvius by design
JahLaza The piece circled in green should be the other way up

Adrianmsmith Thanks, yes it is/was/has been the other way round but for some insane reason unbeknownst to me I turned it that way for the picture! I was speaking about the bottom most metal piece in the picture in my last post where I asked about its orientation. I thought you said it was the wrong way?
JahLaza the bottom bit, flat side to the spring.
looks like unside down hat!

Adrianmsmith yes all assembled as it should. Sorry again for that one wrong display, I’m stumped as to the issue
