HarveyMushman I wonder why it uses a Vibe pump when there are so many other options? I wonder how many people who buy new, declare the cost of the software and pay the vat on it?

dfk41 I wonder why it uses a Vibe pump when there are so many other options?
It’s not ideal, I don’t miss the sound of a vibe pump.
Unless I’m mistaken I don’t think you can use a rotary in the way the Decent works where flow is controlled at the pump. Maybe a gear pump would work but not sure how large they are.
I might be totally wrong though.

Way the decent works it needs the vibe pumps for the accuracy, they are cheaper but just as robust, decent have two machines running constantly in the factory iirc they are on 200,000 shots a piece
@dfk41 they are not the only company who fudge figures I’ve had machines come from Europe with no important charges ….

Cuprajake I was not really complaining about them fudging as it benefits the end user, but, when the cost of the software greatly exceeds the hardware, it makes me think!
It doesn’t, that’s a work around the vat OBS lol

Cuprajake So, taking your conclusion a stage further Jake, which are the expensive parts of a Decent then?

dfk41 wouldn’t have a clue, I don’t manufacture them
Don’t know why people have to get so bleeding defensive.
There’s 8 billion people on this planet, if ¼ of those drinks coffee I’m sure there’s enough to share between all the coffee manufacturers.
It’s getting to the stage where you can’t say a thing with some one jumping to the defense of a manufacturer
End of the day I had an utterly shite experience with my evo2 and even tho I fed stuff back they were still sending faulty machines out rather than fix what needed to be done, even sent me stuff wrong the second time.
That’s inexcusable to me, so yeah I’m salty and pissed at acs, what should of been a great experience ended up stressing me out,
So when I buy a product that just works, with a great user experience from ordering, I will let people know.
I don’t care about the mark up or the cost of components it’s got a 2 yr warranty. It breaks they fix it, I can then extend that for the rest of the machines life, not many companies are that confident in their machines.
Decent are not perfect, the water container is marmite and the fact you have to buy a cover for it separately on a 3k machine is ridiculous. As is only getting one pf and basket, as they charge £100 for them !!

Thr decent has such unrivalled capabilities for the tinkerer that it is in a class of its own but it looks and feels and sounds to me ike a PC with a touchscreen and a 1980s era dot matrix printer that has been modified to make coffee. To me, it just doesn’t offer what an ideal coffee making experience ought to be like. So while I respect and recognise what it can do and think that it will suit many people out there, it’s not for me and a spring lever is what moves me a lot more. Perhaps one day I will buy a strietman to see if the direct lever also appeals to me.

Every product contains a substantial mark up and that’s why the seller is making and selling the product after all. They have to pay their overheads and make it worth their while in terms of profit. Now if their price is higher thna what the market is prepared to pay for it, then they would have to recalibrate. Otherwise if there are enough customers who still buy the product at that price then it’s the right price. So it seems to me decent are perfectly entitled to do what they r doing and they seem to have a more than healthy customer base.
While I am not in its target market, I am glad that a product like the decent exists and it makes the overall coffee industry better for everybody else including the customers.

Jason1wood I’d stick with your original choice, especially if you’re into traditional espresso. At the risk of controversy, the way the DE1 extracts (partly due to its slow fill rate) can make most shots fairly average in flavor profile.
That’s partly the reason I didn’t list it here: I’d rather it goes to someone who enjoys messing around with the machine, or hasn’t yet formed an opinion of what they want. It’s good for experimenting and building up some knowledge of shot styles, and their impact. Ultimately, my take is that it’s very much a third-wave machine. And even in that arena, I can pull better shots (for my tastes) consistently, manually.
Don’t personally agree with that, but each to their own

I am not sure Raja You can really compare the two in the way that you do and especially using it to try to give advice to someone who is looking to purchase a new machine.
Doesn’t take a lot of reading to work out, I am one of the number one fans of ACS and due to a different user experience I also favour ACS more than Jake 🤐🥰🤪 currently .
BUT
As I like all things, electrical and mechanical I cannot pretend the decent does not also intrigue me and if my wife had a slightly different view of the decent I would have both by now, especially considering the 20% off they currently have on display models!!
As for your wife using it, I do not understand why she would not.
Do not get confused by the comments above by Raj about the Strietman as this is about as similar to an EVO 2 as the decent is!
Yes it is a lever but also Ferrari dino and ford escot are both cars
No, I am not about to pull down the Strietman If I had a spare room and the money. I would love to have a play with one but if you are looking for one from home the Evo 2 is far simpler to use and gives very good consistent results and I do not understand why people think there is an issue for the wife using it.
My wife originally would not use it and everyone who sees it says how complicated it “looks” but once they actually try it they agree it is not complicated and wonder what the fuss was all about.

Adrianmsmith I understand that. Im just trying to save myself the typing of the comparison points (it boils down to how the shots taste and what the preferences are). I know how to adjust things to make things relevant for a comparison (my line of work is in the field of technical analysis). What I am mindful of is that people need to go on their own journey and work things out for themselves.
I have no vested interest in the outcome (hence my advice not to worry too much about the parameters of the Decent vs the overall max quality of the shots it produces, even though Im selling one!). Just sharing what I found and some of why Im moving the machine on.
it boils down to what you want,
the decent thats being sold has that much gear with it, you have imo way to many options lol, there like 45 baskets ;)
i dont think its fair to come pare the two anyways as they are totally different animals in my mind, and as above depends on your end goals and what you water as a user experience etc. there is no right or wrong or better machine in this instance.

That’s because I like to explore everything before I dismiss it outright. But that’s just me.
I am one of the few here not to recommend to Jason a machine. My advice to him, is not to listen too much to other peoples opinions (including mine!). Sure, do research of whatever sort you can, set a budget, decide if it is new or used. If new, go down to BB for a pre-arranged visit telling them the 2 machines you want a closer look at and they will set them up side by side for you to have a play. It is only Northampton and for the sake of 3 ½ hours travel you will be able to make sure.
The Decent, you have an owner giving one bit of advice backed by two years experience followed by another owner not agreeing!
For clarity Jason and I go way back. I sold him his Mythos many moons ago. Jason is coming to see me on Saturday for a coffee and a chat. Yes he can have a play on the Evo but I will not be swaying him on it. When I was working people paid me handsomely to give them advice and because of that, I understand the implications involved. Now, the elephant in the room of course will be Jason turning up with a brown bag stuffed full of cash, but I do not think that will happen somehow!

Nah, just let ( convince ) him buy the Evo 🤪😎
P.S. is the evo ready for its first clean and lube yet. ☕
