Vesuvius Pressure Profiling Machine - General Discussion

DavecUK Thanks! It sounds viable. This morning I have purged the water of the steam wand and the first time 17-18 g of water come out before the steam. Is this normal? Is there another way to check the service boiler level? Where is the autofill valve placed? Could I buy another valve and replace it or it’s an electrical problem? Please, send me the diagram of the Vesuvius or the code of the autofill valve, in order to buy another if it is necessary. Also, the chattering that you mention is an electrical issue, then I’m really not capable of checking electrical issues.

Please let me know. Is it possible to check these things in the factory with the @kautivo coffee machine?

The autofill valve of my Vesuvius, the one placed in the big brass piece under the group, was replaced when the machine was serviced. All this big part was replaced but the pressure sensor. Despite this the one way valve returned water from the brew boiler to the water tank after replacing it. Fortunately, a few weeks later, it started to work properly, no more water escaping to the tank. Unfortunately, the pressure behaviour we are talking about was never gone.

If the service boiler was overfilled, you wouldn’t have proper steam, just a lot of water if I’m right ¿?

I think we’d have to focus on the first stage of the profile, it’s during the preinfussion where the machine has trouble, this small stop around the 1,5 bars mark. Overshooting is just a consequence of this. As @AlJuar points, the fail is more prone to occur when the machine has been idle, cold, for a long time. It seems to be worst when weather is cold. That’s why I thing it’s a mechanical issue. But yes… it’s very very difficult to solve this far from a machine.

AJuar if the water was due to overfilling you wouldn’t have steam afterwards surely?
Just condensate in the pipelines?

Is there a similar scheme of internal components (like this for my old Rocket) for Vesuvius?

Is it normal behavior that Vesuvius drains water like this during backflushing or brewing shot?

Adrianmsmith pressure was visible shortly on video, and it was on 13bar and going down, during my backflush profile.

Same happened and I brew coffee with 9-10 bar.

At 13 bar that would be expected (normal), the vent valve on E61 machines starts to let by at about 12-13 bar.

Thinking about it the expansion valve is probably opening as well.

Spid3r00 Yup, I’ve monitored mine at around the same. I became interested when it blew the 10 amp fuse in the mains plug of the power cable I was using. It needs a 13 amp fuse and a cable, IEC plug and socket accordingly rated.

You can easily half the current draw if you wish by setting boilers to heat consecutively rather than concurrently - it’s hidden in the menu somewhere.

Spid3r00 Advanced Menu (the one where you can adjust PID settings, etc.)- Sequent. Heating. If set to enabled boilers will heat sequentially. :-)

I think I see one serious safety issue. Not entirely clear but it appears that the ground wire from the mains lead is trimmed shorter than the live and neutral. It also looks like it isn’t secured with a Wago and is just stuffed up the spade connector.

If that’s the case, if the lead gets pulled a little bit, the ground could come loose, but live and neutral stay connected. There is the potential for the machine to be operating with no safety ground.

When hard wiring best practice is to leave the ground wire the longest - so if the cable gets tugged it is the last to be dislodged.
