I have a wooden handled bottomless pf (generic) that I bought for my Elizabeth then a barista pro IMS basket in it. Will this IMS basket fit the supplied bottomless pf that comes with the Vesuvius?

So, my Vesuvius arrived today. I didn’t want to start another thread and this looked like the most appropriate place to discuss my first day! It left Italy last Friday and arrived in my house today - 6 days, yipee! Mine was definitely used, the plastic was gone from it, there was dirt here and there, spilled water underneath the water tank and for some reason the pipes going onto the tank had a black residue of some sort on parts of them. The panel on top of the machine, where the cup test sits is pretty badly finished with dirty plastic covering it but doesn’t bother me. I didn’t pay for a brand new machine I guess!! Assembling was easy as the provided guide is comprehensive (remember the first thing you do is unscrew the four screws on the top of the side panels, no hammer or anything required) The Teflon furniture gliders I pre purchased are perfect for moving it around on the counter top. A bag of felt pads come with the machine. I put 1L through the group 200ml at a time with at least 15 seconds in between. I then emptied the service boiler twice as per manual. I noticed the shower screen had coffee on it so I soaked that in puly caff and gave a good wash. At this stage I only had time to pull 4 shots as I had to leave! I was close to dialled in by the fourth albeit a bit long but I took it with me in the car- I have to say it was very very nice. So I look forward to playing with it tomorrow. I thought I had a dodgy touch screen as it didn’t seem to respond some times but apparently there are different delay times for different choices on it.. phew..! Looks a stunning machine on the counter and I love the almost totally silent pump. I thought the water reservoir wasn’t the best design but I think I’ll get used to it and won’t have to be refilling it so often when I’m not flushing the system through and just using it to make coffee! It really is a different operation to the Elizabeth but I don’t think it will take long to get used to it. So, I can’t wait to drink coffee from it tomorrow

John_Yossarian I was planning on attaching some foam to support on both sides so it’s stable but flexible. Funnily enough this size just sits perfectly on its own at right angle and doesn’t vibrate or move at all so can be easy removed as and when required

I need a bit of help. In the last few weeks I noticed a noise starting after the machine is cooling down. Seems to appear when the brew boiler is under 35c and steam under 55c.

It seems to be coming from the hole pictured and stops when I block it with finger. There’s no drip etc.

Any ideas if this is something to worry about ? I’m sure it wasn’t doing this previously.

I think it’s the vacuum breaker as well, but as you say it’s doing it at lower temperatures, it might be sticking a little, until it cools down more. You can try steam cleaning it using the wooden spoon trick, or replacing the O ring….but it does depend on what type of vacuum breaker you have?

I lost the track about all these advanced setting in the machine… is the best way to go for settings according to manual or do you guys suggest to change some setting to get even better performance of the machine?

I mean for instance pump speed and so on.

prezes Lol, the only thing I can’t see is the vacuum braker as it’s on the bottom where the tubes come out of the t fitting, the safety valve is on top. From the base though my guess is it’s the black polymer one with a memory metal positive open and close. La Marzocco started using them about 3 or 3 years after ACS did.

It’s unusual, because they usually have a long service life….and they are a little expensive. About 7 to 10 times the cost of a normal if you buy one from LM, who seem to claim it as their own idea…which it never was.

It can be serviced and often a clean or new O rings (silicone or FKM can fix it.

prezes At almost £60 a pop, I would clean it 😃. In the past I was cleaning the vacuum breakers of all my machines regularly and they performed as expected.

Hi everybody the machine with the fail about jump of pressure if steam boiler temperature is over 120° arrived last week from Naples to @tocateclas home’s in Elche, he tested with first espresso and 130° steam boiler the vesuvius failed again…horrible situation, tomorrow i will visit him and i will update with videos both machines failing although seem very difficult to find a solution i will follow trying it!!!

I have to give thanks for your effort and colaboration Dave and Paolo all your help is welcome!

kautivo As @kautivo says, his machine was sent to my home some weeks ago. Same problem. Steam boiler under pressure and you’ll get trouble; cold steam boiler and you’ll be fine. I do not know why the problem didn’t show at the factory but I guess the pump settings were changed. The machine arrived to my home with factory settings and the problem was evident. 100% of times failure with hot steam, 100% free of failure with cold steam boiler (does not matter if it was on or off)

Paolo asked us to change pid settings again and we managed to get a nice ramp up with no preinfussion, using a plain 9 bar profile and tweaking pump settings and acceleration again. Next step will be to get rid of the pressure problem with a regular 10″ preinfussion profile, will see…

After 6 years, always with this problem with steam boiler, I decided to sell my Vesuvius and just get another machine. I sold it very cheap and letting know the new owner about this. This is a great machine and I can not understand why this inconvenience is so complicated to overcome but… . I can’t understand how this is happening just with four machines, the four machines I know well, and another one in the British coffeeforum as I posted in this thread a long time ago.

I just want to thank the forum for the help provided, hope this will be solved soon!
